How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Microsoft Power Platform
Target consulting firms and system integrators first
Large consulting firms and Microsoft partners sponsor Power Platform roles frequently and often have established immigration programs. They file H-1B petitions in volume, which means faster internal processes and legal teams already familiar with the paperwork.
Document your Microsoft certifications before applying
PL-100, PL-200, PL-400, and PL-600 certifications directly strengthen your H-1B petition. USCIS looks for evidence that the role requires specialized knowledge, and Microsoft credentials are concrete proof that your skills go beyond general IT work.
Clarify your specialization in applications
Power Platform covers Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Virtual Agents. Employers sponsor roles more confidently when you specialize. Lead with your primary tool in every application to make the sponsorship case cleaner and more defensible.
Ask about cap-exempt and H-1B transfer options
If you already hold H-1B status, you can transfer to a new Power Platform employer without entering the lottery. This is a major advantage. Ask HR directly whether they support H-1B transfers before investing time in a full application process.
Connect your degree to the role explicitly
USCIS requires a specific connection between your degree field and the Power Platform position. Computer science, information systems, and engineering degrees map cleanly. If your degree is in a different field, prepare to document how your coursework relates to the role.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for sponsoring employers
Not every employer posting Power Platform jobs will sponsor visas. Migrate Mate filters for employers with active sponsorship histories, saving you time and avoiding applications to companies that will decline before the conversation even starts.

Do Microsoft Power Platform roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, Power Platform roles generally qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules because they require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field. Roles focused on Power Apps development, Power Automate architecture, or Power BI analytics have a strong track record of USCIS approval. Employers with established Microsoft practices sponsor these positions regularly.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor my Power Platform visa?
Most employers and USCIS petitions cite computer science, information systems, software engineering, or business information technology as qualifying degree fields. A general business degree alone is unlikely to support a petition unless the role is clearly more analytical than technical. If your degree is tangentially related, pairing it with Microsoft certifications like PL-400 or PL-200 strengthens the specialty occupation argument significantly.
How competitive is H-1B approval for Power Platform roles compared to other tech jobs?
Power Platform roles sit in a favorable position. They're clearly technical and require specialized platform knowledge, which makes the specialty occupation argument straightforward. USCIS approval rates for software and platform-focused roles have historically been higher than for generalist IT or business analyst roles. The main risk is if the job description is written too broadly, so precise job duty language in the petition matters.
Where can I find employers who actively sponsor Power Platform roles?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this, filtering job listings by employers with documented sponsorship histories so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't support a visa. Beyond that, Microsoft Gold and Solutions Partner firms, Big Four consulting practices, and large enterprises running Microsoft 365 ecosystems are the most consistent sponsors for Power Platform talent.
Can a Power Platform contractor or consultant role be sponsored on an H-1B?
Yes, but it's more complex. USCIS applies stricter scrutiny to third-party placement arrangements, requiring the sponsoring employer to demonstrate control over the worker's day-to-day activities. Consulting firms that place you at client sites must document the employer-employee relationship carefully. Roles where you work directly for the sponsoring company, rather than as a placed contractor, face less scrutiny and tend to have smoother petition approvals.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Microsoft Power Platform jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
