Target roles requiring bachelor's degree
Focus on senior PT tech positions that require specific education in exercise science, kinesiology, or health sciences rather than certificate-only roles.
Emphasize specialized knowledge requirements
Highlight roles involving complex treatment protocols, patient assessment, or equipment operation that requires theoretical knowledge beyond basic training.
Consider rehabilitation hospitals over clinics
Hospital-based PT tech roles often have more complex requirements and clearer degree specifications than outpatient clinic positions.
Document supervision and training responsibilities
Roles involving training new techs, overseeing student interns, or managing treatment protocols strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
Research employer's previous H-1B filings
Check DOL disclosure data to see if employers have successfully sponsored similar healthcare support roles before approaching them.
Prepare for degree-job alignment scrutiny
USCIS closely examines whether PT tech duties truly require a bachelor's degree, so job descriptions must justify educational requirements.

Find Physical Therapy Technician JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do physical therapy technicians qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Physical therapy technicians can qualify for H-1B sponsorship, but most entry-level positions don't meet specialty occupation requirements. The role must require a bachelor's degree in a specific field like kinesiology, exercise science, or health sciences. Positions involving patient assessment, treatment planning, or supervision are more likely to qualify than basic assistant roles.
What degree do I need for H-1B sponsorship as a PT technician?
You need a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, health sciences, physical therapy, or a closely related field. Some employers may accept degrees in biology or sports medicine if combined with relevant experience. The degree must directly relate to the specialized knowledge required for the PT technician position.
How to find Physical Therapy Technician jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find Physical Therapy Technician jobs with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate, which specializes in connecting international candidates with sponsoring employers. Focus on healthcare systems, rehabilitation centers, and physical therapy clinics that commonly sponsor H-1B and EB-3 visas for allied health professionals. These employers often have established immigration processes for essential healthcare support roles like PT technicians.
Are PT technician H-1B applications typically approved?
PT technician H-1B applications face higher scrutiny because many positions are considered non-specialty occupations. Success rates improve significantly for roles with clear degree requirements, specialized duties like patient assessment, or positions in hospital settings rather than basic outpatient clinic work. Proper job description structuring is critical.
Can I get sponsored as a PT technician with foreign credentials?
Yes, but you'll need a credential evaluation showing your foreign degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree in the required field. Some employers may also require U.S. certification or licensing depending on state requirements. The evaluation must demonstrate the degree's relevance to physical therapy or related health sciences.
What's the difference between PT tech and PT assistant for sponsorship?
Physical therapist assistants typically have stronger H-1B prospects because they require associate degrees and state licensing, creating clearer professional standards. PT technicians often face more scrutiny since many positions don't require formal education. However, senior PT tech roles with bachelor's degree requirements can qualify if duties involve specialized knowledge and patient care responsibilities.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Physical Therapy Technician jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
