How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Procurement Director
Target multinational corporations with global supply chains
Large manufacturers, retailers, and logistics companies with international operations sponsor Procurement Directors most consistently. They have established immigration programs, dedicated HR teams, and a direct business case for bringing in senior procurement talent from overseas offices.
Document your management scope clearly
Sponsoring employers need to demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Prepare evidence showing you manage teams, control significant procurement budgets, and require specialized degree-level knowledge in supply chain, sourcing strategy, or operations management.
Explore the L-1A if you work for a multinational
If your current employer has U.S. operations, the L-1A intracompany transfer is often faster than H-1B and bypasses the lottery. You need one year of qualifying managerial experience with the company abroad within the last three years.
Time your H-1B registration to the annual lottery window
H-1B registrations open in March each year for an October 1 start date. Procurement Directors relying on H-1B sponsorship should have an employer lined up well before March to ensure your employer can register you in time.
Highlight cross-functional leadership in your resume
USCIS scrutinizes whether a role genuinely requires a specialized degree. A resume that demonstrates strategic sourcing, contract negotiation at scale, and cross-functional leadership strengthens the specialty occupation argument your employer's attorney will need to make.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers actively sponsoring this role
Not every company willing to hire a Procurement Director will proactively advertise visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to sponsorship, saving significant time compared to manually screening general job postings.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Procurement Director role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS requires that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Procurement Directors typically qualify when the role demands specialized knowledge in supply chain management, business, or a related discipline. Employers strengthen the case by documenting that the position requires strategic sourcing expertise beyond general business administration.
What visa options are available for a Procurement Director seeking U.S. sponsorship?
The H-1B is the most common path, but the L-1A intracompany transfer is often a stronger option if you already work for a company with U.S. operations. Senior procurement leaders with a demonstrated record of industry recognition may also qualify for the O-1A extraordinary ability visa, which is employer-sponsored but not subject to the annual H-1B lottery.
What degree does a Procurement Director need for H-1B sponsorship?
USCIS generally expects a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, operations management, or a closely related field. A degree in an unrelated discipline weakens the specialty occupation argument. However, a combination of a relevant associate's degree and substantial progressive work experience in procurement can sometimes satisfy the equivalent degree requirement under USCIS rules.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for senior procurement roles?
The H-1B lottery applies regardless of seniority, with selection rates around 25% for general cap registrations in recent years. However, Procurement Directors employed by cap-exempt organizations such as universities, nonprofit research institutions, or certain government-affiliated entities may bypass the lottery entirely. Large multinationals with established immigration programs can also sometimes leverage cap-exempt affiliates.
Where can I find Procurement Director jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters roles by sponsorship availability, making it far more efficient than searching general job boards. Procurement Director roles with sponsorship tend to appear most frequently at Fortune 500 manufacturers, global retail corporations, and large logistics and consulting firms with active immigration programs.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Procurement Director jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
