Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
USCIS requires distribution management roles to demonstrate a specific degree requirement. A bachelor's in supply chain management, industrial engineering, or business administration strengthens your H-1B case significantly more than a general management degree.
Target employers with existing H-1B filing history
Large third-party logistics providers and national retailers file H-1B petitions regularly. Companies with prior filings have established legal processes and internal HR familiarity, making them far more likely to sponsor a Regional Distribution Manager without hesitation.
Highlight multi-site operational scope in your application
Regional scope, managing multiple distribution centers or warehouse locations, strengthens the specialty occupation argument. Quantify the geographic footprint, team size, and inventory volume you've overseen to demonstrate complexity beyond a general management position.
Understand the L-1A pathway if you're transferring internally
If you've managed distribution operations for the same company abroad for at least one year, an L-1A intracompany transfer is often faster than the H-1B lottery. It bypasses the cap entirely and reflects your managerial track record directly.
Prepare for prevailing wage scrutiny at the regional level
The Department of Labor sets prevailing wages by geographic area. Regional roles covering high-cost metros like New York or Los Angeles will have higher wage floors than roles centered in smaller markets, affecting your offer and petition structure.
Address the specialty occupation question proactively with your employer
Some HR teams assume distribution roles don't qualify for H-1B sponsorship. Coming prepared with examples of approved petitions for similar titles and a clear explanation of the degree-to-role connection helps move the conversation forward productively.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Distribution Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it requires careful documentation. USCIS looks for evidence that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as supply chain management, logistics, or industrial engineering. Generic management roles without a defined degree requirement have faced RFEs, so the job description must be precise about educational requirements and the analytical complexity of the work.
Which visa types are most commonly used to sponsor Regional Distribution Managers?
The H-1B visa is the most common path for external hires. The L-1A intracompany transfer is often the stronger option for candidates already employed by a multinational company, since it bypasses the H-1B lottery and is well-suited for managerial roles. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying business and engineering categories, depending on the specific role requirements.
How can I find Regional Distribution Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa-sponsoring employers. Rather than filtering through thousands of postings that don't sponsor, Migrate Mate surfaces roles from companies with active sponsorship histories, saving you significant time and increasing the relevance of every application you submit.
My degree is in a field unrelated to logistics. Does that disqualify me from H-1B sponsorship in this role?
Not automatically, but it complicates the petition. USCIS accepts equivalent experience in some cases, with three years of relevant professional experience substituting for one year of education. An immigration attorney can assess whether your combination of education and hands-on distribution management experience meets the specialty occupation threshold for your specific job description.
Do Regional Distribution Manager roles have strong H-1B approval rates?
Approval rates vary depending on how the role is classified and documented. Management positions with clearly defined degree requirements in a specific field tend to perform better than broadly scoped operations roles. USCIS has issued RFEs for management titles that appear to rely on generalist skills rather than specialized knowledge, so employer documentation of role complexity is critical to petition success.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Regional Distribution Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
