Target multi-site employers first
Companies operating across multiple states or regions have a structural need for regional ops leadership and are far more likely to sponsor. Focus your search on employers with 500 or more employees and established HR infrastructure for immigration filings.
Position your degree as field-specific
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree and the role. A business administration, supply chain, or industrial engineering degree strengthens the specialty occupation argument considerably more than a general management or unrelated field credential.
Document your P&L and headcount scope
Sponsors and immigration attorneys use your scope of responsibility to justify the specialty occupation classification. Quantify the number of locations managed, direct reports, and budget size in your resume to make the petition stronger from the start.
Ask about L-1A eligibility if transferring internally
If you currently work for a multinational and your employer has a U.S. operation, the L-1A intracompany transferee visa can bypass the H-1B lottery entirely. This path requires one year of employment abroad in a managerial or executive capacity.
Clarify the job posting's degree requirement
Postings that say 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required' can undermine a specialty occupation petition. Before applying, confirm the employer will specify a degree requirement in the official job description submitted with the LCA and I-129.
Browse sponsored roles on Migrate Mate
Not every regional operations posting comes with sponsorship, and filtering for it manually is time-consuming. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where employers have an active history of visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to positions that will never move forward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Operations Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field, not just any degree. Regional Operations Manager roles supported by a business administration, supply chain, or industrial engineering requirement generally pass the specialty occupation test. Roles where the employer accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field face higher scrutiny and risk of denial.
What visa types are available to Regional Operations Managers seeking sponsorship?
The H-1B visa is the most common path for external hires. If you're already employed by a multinational with U.S. operations, the L-1A intracompany transferee visa is often a faster route since it has no annual lottery. Candidates from Australia may also qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals should explore the TN visa under the USMCA, which covers certain management and business roles.
Which industries are most likely to sponsor a Regional Operations Manager?
Healthcare systems, logistics and third-party logistics providers, retail chains, manufacturing, and facilities management companies are the most active sponsors. These industries operate across multiple locations by design, which creates a genuine structural need for regional oversight roles. Employers with established immigration programs, typically those with 500 or more employees, are the most realistic targets for sponsorship.
Can I qualify for an H-1B as a Regional Operations Manager without a four-year degree?
Potentially. USCIS allows three years of specialized work experience to substitute for one year of formal education. Without any degree, you'd generally need around 12 years of directly relevant operations experience to meet the bachelor's degree equivalent threshold. This path requires a detailed evaluation letter from a credentials assessor and is harder to defend at the petition stage. An immigration attorney should assess your specific background before filing.
Where can I find Regional Operations Manager jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters for employers with a documented history of sponsoring work visas, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't move forward with immigration. Regional ops roles with sponsorship do exist, but they're a subset of total postings. Targeting the right employers from the start is the most efficient approach.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Regional Operations Manager jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
