Target large hospital systems with multiple facilities
Major health networks like Kaiser Permanente, HCA Healthcare, and Cleveland Clinic have established visa sponsorship programs and greater resources to handle immigration costs for float pool nurses.
Emphasize your adaptability across multiple specialties
Float pool nurses work in various units (ICU, medical-surgical, emergency). This flexibility addresses critical staffing shortages that justify the H-1B specialty occupation requirement to USCIS.
Get your NCLEX-RN results before applying
Most employers require active U.S. nursing licensure before sponsoring visas. Complete NCLEX-RN and obtain initial state licensure to strengthen your sponsorship candidacy significantly.
Consider states with nursing compact licensure
Compact states allow practice across multiple states with one license. This geographic flexibility makes you more valuable to multi-state health systems considering visa sponsorship.
Document specialized certifications and training
ACLS, BLS, and unit-specific certifications demonstrate the specialized knowledge that supports H-1B petitions. Maintain current certifications and highlight them in applications.
Research hospital sponsorship track records
Check DOL LCA disclosure data to identify which hospitals have sponsored H-1B nurses recently. Target employers with proven sponsorship history rather than cold-calling all facilities.

Find RN Float Pool JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do RN Float Pool positions qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, RN Float Pool positions qualify as specialty occupations requiring nursing licensure and typically a BSN degree. USCIS regularly approves H-1B petitions for registered nurses, especially for hospitals demonstrating critical staffing needs across multiple units that float nurses address.
What degree do I need for visa sponsorship as a float nurse?
Most employers require a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for H-1B sponsorship, though some accept ADN plus relevant experience. You must also pass NCLEX-RN and obtain U.S. nursing licensure. Foreign nursing degrees typically need credential evaluation through CGFNS or similar agencies.
How to find RN Float Pool jobs with visa sponsorship?
To find RN Float Pool positions with visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to search specifically for these flexible nursing roles. Target large hospital systems, multi-facility healthcare networks, and major medical centers that typically sponsor H-1B or EB-3 visas for registered nurses. Focus on healthcare employers experiencing nursing shortages who actively recruit international RNs for their float pool departments across various units.
Which types of hospitals sponsor float pool nurses?
Large hospital systems, academic medical centers, and Magnet-designated hospitals most commonly sponsor float nurses. These facilities have established immigration departments and face chronic staffing shortages across multiple specialties that justify visa sponsorship costs to their boards.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take for nursing positions?
Standard H-1B processing takes 3-6 months after filing, though premium processing reduces this to 15 days for an additional fee. However, most nursing H-1Bs are cap-exempt when filed by hospitals, allowing year-round filing without lottery restrictions.
Can I get sponsored while on OPT as a nursing graduate?
Yes, nursing graduates on F-1 OPT can work while their employer prepares H-1B sponsorship. However, you must pass NCLEX-RN and obtain nursing licensure during OPT. Some employers prefer to see your clinical performance before committing to sponsorship costs.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored RN Float Pool jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
