How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Salesforce Commerce Cloud
Frame your SFCC expertise around business outcomes
Sponsors approve H-1B petitions faster when the role clearly requires specialized knowledge. Tie your Commerce Cloud experience to revenue impact, conversion rate improvements, or platform migrations to strengthen the specialty occupation case.
Target employers with an active LCA filing history
Companies that have sponsored Commerce Cloud or Salesforce platform roles before understand the H-1B process. Prioritizing these employers reduces the risk of a sponsorship conversation stalling due to unfamiliarity with the petition requirements.
Certifications accelerate the specialty occupation argument
A Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer or Architect certification signals a high degree of specialization. This strengthens your employer's H-1B petition by demonstrating that the role requires knowledge beyond a generalist software engineering background.
Get your degree equivalency documented early
If your computer science or engineering degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation before your employer files. USCIS scrutinizes foreign degrees closely for specialty occupation claims, and delays here can push back your start date significantly.
Raise sponsorship after demonstrating platform-specific value
Employers hesitate to sponsor generalists. If you can show measurable impact with Commerce Cloud specifically, such as a successful B2C implementation or storefront optimization, the sponsorship conversation becomes about retaining a specialist, not taking a risk.
Understand cap-exempt employers as an alternative path
Universities, nonprofits, and qualifying research institutions can file H-1B petitions outside the annual lottery. If a cap-exempt employer has a Commerce Cloud or Salesforce platform need, this pathway bypasses the randomness of the annual registration entirely.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Salesforce Commerce Cloud role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on whether the role normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Commerce Cloud roles centered on architecture, custom cartridge development, or platform integration typically qualify under computer science or information systems. Generic e-commerce coordinator roles with no coding requirement may not meet the threshold, so the job description wording matters significantly.
What degree does my employer need to list on my H-1B petition for a Commerce Cloud job?
Most employers specify a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or information technology. Some will accept management information systems. The key is that the degree field must directly relate to the duties of the role. If your degree is in a different field, three years of relevant work experience can substitute for one year of education under USCIS equivalency rules, though documentation must be thorough.
How do I find employers actively sponsoring Salesforce Commerce Cloud roles?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. It filters visa-sponsoring employers and surfaces Commerce Cloud and Salesforce platform roles where companies have a documented history of filing H-1B or other work visa petitions. Browsing Migrate Mate lets you focus your applications on employers already familiar with the sponsorship process, rather than spending time on companies that may decline once you raise the visa question.
Are H-1B approval rates higher or lower for Salesforce Commerce Cloud roles compared to general software engineering?
Approval rates for clearly defined Salesforce platform roles are generally comparable to broader software engineering positions when the petition is well-prepared. The risk increases when job duties are vague or the degree requirement is loosely stated. Employers who have sponsored similar Salesforce roles before tend to file stronger petitions, which is why targeting companies with prior LCA filings for Commerce Cloud or CRM platform roles improves your odds.
Can I switch to a new employer mid-H-1B status if I'm in a Salesforce Commerce Cloud role?
Yes. H-1B portability allows you to start working for a new employer once they file an H-1B transfer petition, without waiting for approval, as long as your current H-1B was properly maintained. The new employer must file a new I-129, and the role should still qualify as a specialty occupation. If your new Commerce Cloud role has substantially different duties, USCIS may scrutinize whether the same approval applies.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Salesforce Commerce Cloud jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
