To make that happen, we need people who are curious, self-propelled, generous, and genuine. People who love being part of a fast-moving, fast-thinking growth company. And people who care—about each other, about UiPath, and about our larger purpose. Could that be you?
About The Role
UiPath is redefining enterprise automation with AI. As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you’ll work directly with customers to design and deploy agentic, AI-powered workflows that transform how businesses operate. This is a highly technical, customer-facing role for engineers who enjoy building in real-world environments. You’ll take ambiguous problems, turn them into production systems, and see your work deliver immediate, measurable impact. If you like operating at the intersection of AI engineering, systems design, and customer impact, this role is built for you.
What You’ll Do
- Build and deploy LLM-powered applications and multi-agent workflows in production environments
- Design end-to-end solutions integrating APIs, enterprise systems, and data platforms
- Partner directly with customers to translate business problems into scalable AI solutions
- Own delivery from prototype → production → iteration
- Optimize systems for performance, cost, and reliability
- Contribute reusable patterns and influence product through real-world feedback
What We’re Looking For
- 5–8+ years of software engineering experience (including applied or customer-facing work)
- Ability to operate in ambiguity and move quickly from idea to execution
- Strong coding skills in Python and/or TypeScript
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and production AI systems
- Experience building and deploying complex, integrated systems for production
- Strong communication skills with both engineers and business stakeholders
Strong Preference
- PhD or Master’s in Computer Science (or related field)
- Experience with agent frameworks, orchestration systems, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, etc.)
- Background in applied AI, machine learning, or automation platforms
- Experience in startup, consulting, or forward-deployed environments
Why This Role
- Build real AI systems in production — not just prototypes
- Work directly with customers solving high-value, complex problems
- Operate at the frontier of agentic AI + enterprise automation
- Influence product direction through hands-on experience
- See your work drive millions in business impact
Additional Details
- Travel: ~20–30% to customer sites
- Location: Bellevue preferred; exceptional remote candidates considered
Maybe you don’t tick all the boxes above—but still think you’d be great for the job? Go ahead, apply anyway. Please. Because we know that experience comes in all shapes and sizes—and passion can’t be learned. Many of our roles allow for flexibility in when and where work gets done. Depending on the needs of the business and the role, the number of hybrid, office-based, and remote workers will vary from team to team. Target companies with active H-1B filing histories
Forward deployed engineering roles are concentrated at companies that file H-1Bs regularly. Prioritize employers with consistent sponsorship track records rather than assuming any tech company will sponsor. Past filing behavior is the strongest signal of future willingness.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
USCIS requires a direct connection between your degree field and the role. Computer science, software engineering, and applied mathematics degrees map cleanly. If your degree is adjacent, document how coursework and experience directly support the forward deployment function.
Emphasize client-facing technical scope in your resume
Sponsoring attorneys build the specialty occupation case from your job description. Resumes that detail enterprise integration work, technical architecture decisions, and cross-functional leadership give immigration counsel stronger evidence than generic engineering bullet points.
Ask about sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Some employers sponsor H-1B transfers but won't initiate a new cap-subject petition. Clarify whether the company supports initial H-1B filings, cap-exempt transfers, or both before signing. This distinction matters significantly depending on your current visa status.
Consider O-1A if H-1B lottery odds concern you
Senior engineers with published work, speaking credits, high compensation relative to peers, or recognition awards may qualify for O-1A. Unlike H-1B, O-1A is not subject to a lottery and can be filed at any time of year.
Understand the LCA requirement before your start date
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before your H-1B petition is submitted. Confirm your hiring team knows this timeline. Delays in LCA certification push back your legal start date and can complicate onboarding logistics.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS defines a specialty occupation as one requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Senior Forward Deployed Engineer roles typically require a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical discipline, and the client-facing technical complexity strengthens the specialty occupation argument. Roles that list a degree as preferred rather than required can create problems, so job description language matters.
Which visa types do employers typically sponsor for this role?
H-1B visa is the most common pathway for Senior Forward Deployed Engineers. Employers in defense tech or with government contracts may also support H-1B cap-exempt filings through qualifying research institutions. Candidates with demonstrated peer recognition, high compensation, or published technical contributions may qualify for O-1A, which bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. L-1A is an option if you're transferring from an overseas office of the same company.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for this specific role?
Forward deployed engineering is a high-value, specialized function that most employers won't offshore easily, which increases their willingness to sponsor. The bottleneck is the H-1B lottery, not employer hesitation. In recent fiscal years, selection rates have been around 25%, meaning multiple registration cycles are common. Companies in fintech, AI infrastructure, and enterprise software tend to be consistent H-1B filers for roles at this seniority level.
Do I need a four-year degree, or can work experience substitute?
USCIS allows three years of specialized work experience to substitute for one year of formal education, meaning 12 years of directly relevant experience can stand in for a four-year degree. However, this substitution is harder to defend for H-1B specialty occupation claims than an actual degree. If your degree is a three-year international bachelor's, it's generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree when evaluated by a credentials assessor.
Where can I find Senior Forward Deployed Engineer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, so you're not sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. Senior Forward Deployed Engineer positions on Migrate Mate span enterprise software, AI platforms, and fintech, sectors where employers actively file H-1B petitions and have established immigration support processes for new hires.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior Forward Deployed Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
