Automation, IaC & Development
- 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure automation using Terraform (primary IaC), gcloud CLI, AWS CLI, and Python
- Develop and maintain Python-based scripting, workflow logic, and automation tooling — not just glue scripts
- Implement and maintain GitHub-based CI/CD automation (GitHub Actions / Workflows) aligned with enterprise patterns
- Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, service enablement, and operational runbooks end-to-end
- Ensure all automation complies with organizational guardrails: environment labels, CMEK, subnet/region constraints, and org policies
Cloud Networking
- Deep understanding of cloud networking fundamentals: VPC design, subnets, routing tables, firewalling, peering models, DNS
- Hands-on experience managing and troubleshooting VPC networks, firewall rules, connectivity issues, and PSC provisioning on both GCP and AWS
- Experience with hybrid connectivity patterns (VPN, Interconnect, Direct Connect)
Security & Identity
- 3+ years designing and implementing IAM models on GCP and AWS, including custom roles and least-privilege patterns
- High degree of knowledge in IT security, data protection, encryption (CMEK/CSEK), and compliance frameworks
- Experience with PII/HIPAA regulated environments a strong plus
AI-Assisted Engineering
- Active use of AI-based tools (e.g., MCP / Model Context Protocol, AI CLIs, LLM-assisted coding tools) to accelerate troubleshooting, automation development, and platform operations
- Ability to critically evaluate, validate, and improve AI-generated code and runbooks — not just accept output
- Demonstrated pattern of using AI to reduce toil and increase engineering throughput, not as a novelty
Version Control & DevOps
- Proficient Git and GitHub workflows: branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, secrets management
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in enterprise environments
- Able to interpret, maintain, and improve cloud runbooks, operational playbooks, and process documentation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional certification
- GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification
- Experience with ServiceNow-based intake or operational ticket workflows
- Experience planning and executing on-premises to cloud migrations (GCP and/or AWS)
- Experience with enterprise-scale cloud governance, organizational policies, and compliance posture management
- Familiarity with enterprise cloud environments and standards
- Vast understanding of cloud-native architectures and when to apply PaaS vs IaaS vs containerized workloads
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Equivalent work experience demonstrating the required technical depth will be considered.
SUCCESS PROFILE
The ideal candidate for this role:
- Operates with an engineering-first mindset — automation is the default, manual work is the exception
- Thrives in a fast-paced, multi-cloud operational environment and owns problems end-to-end
- Brings genuine depth on both GCP and AWS, not surface-level familiarity
- Integrates AI tooling naturally into their workflow to go faster and build better
- Collaborates without friction across Cloud Engineering, Intake, Security, and Platform teams
- Continuously reduces operational overhead through improved automation, documentation, and service supportability
Warm Regards,
Prachi Gupta

Target employers with established cloud infrastructure teams
Large enterprises and cloud-native companies with dedicated platform engineering teams sponsor H-1B visas far more consistently than startups. Check OFLC disclosure data to verify a company's sponsorship history before applying.
Align your degree to the role description carefully
H-1B specialty occupation requires a degree in a directly related field. Computer science, software engineering, and information systems degrees are straightforward. If your degree is adjacent, document how your coursework maps to cloud platform work.
Prioritize cap-exempt employers to avoid the H-1B lottery
Universities, nonprofits, and government research organizations are cap-exempt, meaning they can sponsor H-1B visas year-round without lottery risk. Cloud platform roles exist at these institutions, particularly in research computing and infrastructure teams.
Highlight certifications alongside your degree
AWS Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional, and Azure certifications reinforce the specialty occupation argument in your H-1B petition. They signal that the role requires specialized knowledge, which strengthens the employer's case with USCIS.
Negotiate sponsorship terms before accepting an offer
Clarify whether the employer covers H-1B filing fees, premium processing, and future green card sponsorship before signing. These commitments vary significantly by company and are much harder to renegotiate after you've started.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Migrate Mate filters job listings by sponsorship availability, so you're not guessing which employers will support your visa. Browsing by role title surfaces companies actively hiring Senior Cloud Platform Engineers with sponsorship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Senior Cloud Platform Engineer consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation under H-1B visa requirements because the role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS has a strong record of approving petitions for this job title, particularly when the employer's job description ties specific technical duties to degree-level knowledge in cloud architecture, distributed systems, or infrastructure engineering.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor my H-1B as a Cloud Platform Engineer?
A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or information systems is the standard. A degree in a less directly related field, such as mathematics or physics, may still qualify if you can demonstrate the coursework covered relevant technical foundations. Degrees from outside the U.S. are accepted but may require a credential evaluation to confirm U.S. equivalency.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my chances as a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer?
The general H-1B cap pool had a selection rate of roughly 25% in FY2025, meaning most registrants are not selected. A master's degree from a U.S. institution gives you access to the advanced degree exemption pool, which improves selection odds modestly. Targeting cap-exempt employers, such as universities or qualifying nonprofits with cloud infrastructure needs, eliminates lottery risk entirely and is a practical alternative worth pursuing.
Can I get a green card sponsored as a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer?
Yes. Most employers who sponsor H-1B visas for this role will also support PERM labor certification for an EB-3 or EB-2 green card, though it is not automatic and depends on company policy. Indian and Chinese nationals face multi-year backlogs due to per-country limits, while applicants from most other countries can move through the EB-2 or EB-3 queue in one to three years. Confirming green card sponsorship policy before accepting an offer matters.
Where can I find Senior Cloud Platform Engineer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. It lists Senior Cloud Platform Engineer roles from employers who sponsor work visas, so you can skip the uncertainty of applying to companies that won't support your immigration status. You can filter by role, location, and visa type to find positions that match your situation, whether you're on OPT, H-1B, or another status.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior Cloud Platform Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
