How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer
Target employers already filing Fabric or Power BI LCAs
Employers who have previously sponsored data engineers for H-1B visas are far more likely to sponsor again. Look for companies with active Microsoft Fabric or Azure data platform projects, as their HR and legal processes are already set up for sponsorship.
Frame your degree as a direct match for the role
USCIS approves H-1B petitions for specialty occupations when your degree aligns with the specific role. A degree in computer science, information systems, or data engineering maps cleanly to Senior Fabric Engineer, strengthening your petition from the start.
Highlight Microsoft certifications alongside your degree
Certifications like DP-600 or DP-700 signal active expertise in Microsoft Fabric specifically. While they don't replace a degree for visa purposes, they differentiate you from other candidates and reassure skeptical employers that sponsorship is worth pursuing.
Approach consulting firms and system integrators early
Firms like Accenture, Cognizant, and Infosys routinely sponsor data engineers and already have established sponsorship pipelines. They often have active Microsoft Fabric projects and are less deterred by sponsorship costs than smaller engineering teams.
Address the H-1B lottery risk directly with employers
Many hiring managers fear sponsorship means a guaranteed hire falls through at lottery. Clarifying that cap-exempt employers exist, and that L-1 or O-1 may be alternative paths, shows employers you understand the system and reduces their hesitation.
Use Migrate Mate to focus only on sponsoring employers
Applying broadly wastes time when most postings come from companies unwilling to sponsor. Migrate Mate filters to employers actively open to visa sponsorship, so your applications go to companies already prepared to support an H-1B petition for this role.

Does a Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer is a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria because the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, data engineering, information systems, or a closely related field. The technical depth of the role, including data lakehouse architecture, DAX, and pipeline design, supports the specialty occupation classification. Employers in tech, finance, and consulting regularly file successful H-1B petitions for this job title.
What degree do I need for an employer to sponsor me as a Microsoft Fabric Engineer?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related technical field is the standard requirement. The degree must align with the specific role, not just any technical field. If your degree is in a different area but you have substantial coursework in data systems or engineering, your employer's immigration attorney can assess whether a combination of education and experience satisfies the specialty occupation standard.
Are H-1B approvals common for data engineering roles like Microsoft Fabric Engineer?
Data engineering roles consistently see strong H-1B approval rates. USCIS data shows software and data-focused occupations in the computer systems design and financial sectors have approval rates above 90% in recent fiscal years. The key is ensuring the job description explicitly ties the role's duties to a specific degree requirement, which experienced immigration counsel can help structure correctly in the LCA and I-129 petition.
Can I get sponsored for this role without going through the H-1B lottery?
Yes, in some cases. Universities, nonprofit research organizations, and certain government entities are cap-exempt and can sponsor H-1B workers outside the annual lottery. If you're on an F-1 OPT, you can work while your H-1B lottery entry is pending. Australians may also qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and a separate annual cap. Canadians and Mexicans may qualify under TN status for related engineering categories.
Where can I find Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer jobs that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this. It surfaces Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer roles from employers who are open to H-1B and other visa sponsorships, so you're not wasting applications on companies that won't support your visa. The platform is designed for international candidates navigating the job search with work authorization requirements, which is a filter most general job boards don't offer.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior Microsoft Fabric Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
