About The Company
Valon is building the AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. We're a Series C company backed by a16z, transforming industries that others have written off as too complex to innovate. Rather than build on top of broken legacy systems, we took a different approach: we built and operate our own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. This wasn't the end goal, it was how we deeply understood the complexity needed to build software that actually works in regulated industries. The results speak for themselves. We've transformed mortgage servicing from a 0% margin business into 60%+ margins while dramatically improving customer experience. Major enterprise contracts are now deploying across the industry. ValonOS is our unified platform that makes every process structured and programmable and it is perfectly positioned for the AI era. When everything flows through one system with rich data, AI agents don't just automate tasks, they continuously improve entire operations. Mortgage servicing is just the beginning of our vision to transform regulated industries and beyond.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Security Operations Engineer
Target employers with established security teams
Large financial institutions, cloud providers, and defense contractors run mature SOC teams and sponsor H-1B visas consistently. Smaller startups may lack the legal infrastructure to file petitions, so prioritize companies with 500 or more employees.
Highlight certifications alongside your degree
CISSP, CISM, and CEH certifications strengthen your specialty occupation case. USCIS evaluates whether the role genuinely requires specialized knowledge, and security certifications demonstrate that the position demands expertise beyond a general IT background.
Get your employer started on the LCA early
The Labor Condition Application must be certified by the Department of Labor before your H-1B petition is filed. Most delays happen here. Prompt your HR or immigration counsel to begin the LCA process as soon as your offer letter is signed.
Document the degree-to-role connection clearly
USCIS scrutinizes whether your specific degree field connects to the job duties. A cybersecurity or computer science degree maps cleanly. If your degree is in a related field like electrical engineering, your attorney should build an explicit theoretical-basis argument in the petition.
Ask about premium processing before accepting an offer
Premium processing guarantees a 15-business-day USCIS decision for an additional fee paid by the employer. For senior roles with urgent start dates, most employers will cover it. Clarify this during negotiation, not after signing.

Does a Senior Security Operations Engineer role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes. Senior Security Operations Engineer is consistently approved as a specialty occupation under H-1B standards. The role requires theoretical and practical application of cybersecurity principles at a level that typically demands a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, information security, or a closely related field. USCIS has a strong record of approving petitions for this job title.
What degree do I need to get H-1B sponsorship as a Security Operations Engineer?
A bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or electrical engineering is the standard baseline. Degrees in adjacent fields can qualify if your attorney demonstrates a direct connection between the curriculum and the job duties. Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees. Professional certifications like CISSP can supplement but not replace the degree requirement.
Which types of employers sponsor Security Operations Engineers most often?
Financial services firms, cloud infrastructure companies, federal contractors, and large healthcare organizations sponsor Security Operations Engineers at the highest rates. These industries handle sensitive data at scale, which drives demand for dedicated SOC talent and gives them mature H-1B sponsorship processes. You can browse verified sponsoring employers for this role on Migrate Mate.
Can I work as a Senior Security Operations Engineer on an O-1A visa instead of H-1B?
Potentially, but the bar is high. The O-1A requires demonstrated extraordinary ability through evidence like published research, industry awards, significant contributions to the field, high compensation relative to peers, or leadership in distinguished organizations. Senior engineers with a strong publication record or recognized contributions to open-source security tooling are more competitive. It's worth exploring if you missed the H-1B lottery.
Is security clearance required, and does it affect visa sponsorship?
Many security operations roles at defense contractors and federal agencies require U.S. security clearances, which are generally not available to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. This limits sponsorship opportunities in the cleared space significantly. However, a large segment of private-sector SOC roles in finance, healthcare, and tech do not require clearances and actively sponsor international candidates. Focus your search on these sectors.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Senior Security Operations Engineer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
