We are seeking a dynamic and customer-focused Automotive Service Writer to join our fast-paced dealership team. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for customers seeking vehicle repairs and maintenance services. Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and listen attentively to understand their vehicle concerns and service needs
- Prepare detailed repair estimates using estimating software, including auto estimating and computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools
- Communicate repair recommendations clearly, upselling additional services such as oil changes, tire service, brake repair, suspension, shocks & struts, transmissions, air brake systems, and other automotive repairs
- Coordinate with technicians to prioritize repairs and ensure timely completion of services
- Maintain accurate documentation of all work orders, customer interactions, and cash handling procedures
- Explain repair procedures and costs transparently to customers, ensuring they understand their options
- Follow up with clients post-service to ensure satisfaction and promote repeat business through excellent client communication and customer service
Skills
- Proven experience in automotive service writing or dealership service departments with a strong understanding of automotive diagnostics and repairs
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including transmissions, oil changes, brakes, suspension components, shocks & struts, tire service, and collision repair
- Proficiency with estimating software and computer-aided vehicle damage estimating tools
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration
- Ability to upsell services confidently while maintaining integrity and customer trust
- Mechanical knowledge combined with dealership experience enhances your ability to explain complex repairs clearly
- Experience in auto service management or as a service technician is highly valued
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for test drives or vehicle inspections as needed
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and cash handling procedures
