Account Project Manager Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a account project manager in Iowa?
Most Iowa employers expect a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field as the starting point. From there, building experience in account coordination or project support roles at Iowa-based companies in insurance, financial services, or manufacturing is the most common path. Earning a Project Management Professional credential through the Project Management Institute strengthens candidacy significantly. Iowa does not require a state-issued license specific to this role, so credentials and demonstrated client management experience carry the most weight.
How much do account project managers make in Iowa?
Account project managers in Iowa earn a median of about $96,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,000 for the lowest 10% to over $150,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire account project managers in Iowa?
Employers hiring account project managers in Iowa right now include State Farm, TA Group Financial, and LCS, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's insurance and financial services sector, anchored in Des Moines, generates particularly steady demand for this role year-round.
Which Iowa cities have the most account project manager jobs?
Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and West Des Moines have the most account project manager openings in Iowa. Des Moines leads because of the heavy concentration of insurance carriers, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters there, while Cedar Rapids is driven by aerospace, technology, and agribusiness employers, and Davenport benefits from its position in the Quad Cities manufacturing and logistics corridor.
Are there remote account project manager jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than many fields, since account project management is primarily a communication and coordination role that can be performed effectively without a fixed on-site presence. About 46% of account project manager openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader employer flexibility in the sector. Client-facing coordination tasks and internal reporting are the functions most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a account project manager in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to start in a project coordinator or account support role at a large Iowa employer, then move into an account project manager title after demonstrating client management competency. Principal Financial Group, Wellmark, and Collins Aerospace all hire entry-level project and account support staff from which internal advancement is possible. Adjacent roles like marketing coordinator, inside sales associate, or operations analyst at Iowa-based firms frequently transition into account project management. Completing a CAPM certification before applying gives candidates with limited experience a concrete credential to present.
