Quality Assurance Analyst Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a quality assurance analyst in Iowa?
Most quality assurance analyst positions in Iowa require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related discipline. Iowa does not issue a state-specific license for this role, so hiring is credential-driven rather than regulated. Certifications like the ISTQB Foundation Level or a Certified Software Quality Analyst designation significantly strengthen a candidacy. Iowa employers in manufacturing and financial services tend to favor candidates who can demonstrate hands-on testing experience through internships or project portfolios.
How much do quality assurance analysts make in Iowa?
Quality assurance analysts in Iowa earn a median of about $88,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $55,640 for the lowest 10% to over $126,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire quality assurance analysts in Iowa?
Companies currently hiring quality assurance analysts in Iowa include Elanco, Bitco Insurance Companies, and IFF, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's insurance, financial technology, and advanced manufacturing sectors generate particularly consistent demand for QA talent across the state.
Which Iowa cities have the most quality assurance analyst jobs?
Davenport, Fort Dodge, and Cedar Rapids have the most quality assurance analyst openings in Iowa. Des Moines dominates the distribution due to its dense concentration of insurance carriers, fintech firms, and corporate headquarters, while Cedar Rapids and Davenport draw demand from manufacturing and technology employers anchored in those metro areas.
Are there remote quality assurance analyst jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than most fields, since quality assurance analyst work is primarily desk-based and software-focused. About 29% of quality assurance analyst openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how naturally the role translates to distributed teams. Software testing, test automation, and QA documentation tasks are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a quality assurance analyst in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to move into a junior QA or software tester role from an adjacent position such as technical support, business analyst, or data entry, which several Iowa-based financial and insurance employers use as feeder roles. Companies like Principal Financial Group and other Des Moines insurance carriers periodically hire associate-level QA testers for structured onboarding programs. Earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certification and building a personal testing portfolio using open-source projects give candidates a concrete edge over others without direct experience.
