Accountant Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accountant in Louisiana?
To become a licensed CPA in Louisiana, you must meet the education and experience requirements set by the Louisiana State Board of Certified Public Accountants and pass the Uniform CPA Examination. Louisiana requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting and business coursework. After passing the exam, you need supervised work experience under a licensed CPA before the board will issue your license. Many accountant roles that do not require a CPA license still expect a relevant degree and may value progress toward certification.
How much do accountants make in Louisiana?
Accountants in Louisiana earn a median of about $73,810 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,950 for the lowest 10% to over $117,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accountants in Louisiana?
Employers hiring accountants in Louisiana right now include Ochsner Health, Division of Administration, and Bengal Transportation Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Louisiana's energy sector, large hospital systems, and state government agencies are historically among the most consistent sources of accountant openings across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most accountant jobs?
Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lafayette have the most accountant openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge leads because it is home to state government offices, major petrochemical operations, and large university systems, while New Orleans draws demand from its tourism, healthcare, and port-related industries, and Shreveport's concentration of regional healthcare systems and energy companies sustains a steady local market.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of accountant openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well accounting work translates to off-site environments. Tax preparation, financial analysis, and management reporting roles tend to have the highest remote availability, while staff accountants tied to specific operations or government contracts are more likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a accountant in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounting assistant roles at Louisiana's large hospital systems like Ochsner Health or LCMC Health, state agencies, or energy companies such as Entergy, which regularly hire candidates with a degree but limited work history. Internship programs at regional CPA firms in New Orleans and Baton Rouge offer a direct route into public accounting. Completing the CPA exam sections early, even before licensure, signals commitment and gives you a measurable edge over candidates who have not started the process.
Where can I find and apply to accountant jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to accountant jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
