Tips for Your Accounting Clerk Job Search
Tailor your resume to the software
Most accounting clerk postings name a specific platform, such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle. Mirror the exact software name from each job description in your resume's skills section so your application clears automated screening before a human reads it.
Quantify reconciliation and processing volume
Hiring managers want to know the scale you've worked at. Replace vague phrases like 'processed invoices' with specific volume language, such as 'processed over 200 vendor invoices per week,' even if you're drawing from internship or temp experience.
Target industries with high invoice volume
Healthcare networks, property management firms, and logistics companies post accounting clerk roles year-round because their transaction volumes are constant. Filtering your search by these sectors gives you a steadier pipeline of openings than targeting any single employer type.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists accounting clerk openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for a practical skills screen
Many employers give a short data-entry accuracy or spreadsheet test before the interview. Practice entering figures quickly and cleanly in Excel, focusing on formatting, basic formulas like SUM and VLOOKUP, and catching transposition errors under time pressure.
Follow up with the accounts payable or AR team lead
After an interview, send a brief note referencing a specific detail from the conversation, such as the billing cycle the team runs or a system they mentioned migrating to. It signals genuine interest in the day-to-day work, not just the title.
Accounting Clerk Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most accounting clerks?
The companies hiring the most accounting clerks right now include Costco Wholesale, Collabera, and Clark Schaefer Hackett, with the largest share of openings in California, Florida, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Healthcare systems, government agencies, and logistics companies tend to maintain the most consistent hiring volume for this role.
How many accounting clerk jobs are remote?
About 4% of accounting clerk openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than many office roles because much of the work involves physical documents, on-site approvals, and direct collaboration with operations teams. Accounts payable processing and payroll support tend to have the highest share of remote-eligible positions within the role.
How do you become an accounting clerk?
Most employers expect at minimum a high school diploma plus demonstrated bookkeeping or data-entry experience, though an associate degree in accounting or business makes you competitive for a broader range of openings. Earning a certification such as the NACPB Bookkeeping Certification adds credibility if your degree is unrelated. Building hands-on experience through temp placements, community college practicums, or volunteer bookkeeping for nonprofits is a reliable way to fill gaps before applying.
Can you get hired as an accounting clerk with little or no experience?
Yes, entry-level accounting clerk roles regularly go to candidates who can demonstrate accuracy and basic software literacy even without formal work history. Employers in high-turnover sectors like retail or property management often train on their specific systems. Emphasize any coursework involving spreadsheets, cash handling experience from retail or service jobs, and any volunteer or freelance bookkeeping work to make your application competitive from the start.
What does the accounting clerk interview process look like?
Most accounting clerk interviews involve an initial phone screen with HR, followed by a practical skills assessment testing data-entry speed and accuracy or basic Excel tasks. A final interview with the accounting manager or team lead typically focuses on how you handle discrepancies, your experience with specific software, and how you prioritize competing deadlines during month-end or year-end close cycles.
Where can I find and apply to accounting clerk jobs?
You can find and apply to accounting clerk jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to each listing without having to search multiple sites or track openings manually.
