Who We Are
Client has been employee-owned since its founding in 1956—not as a structure, but as a belief. We are architects, engineers, scientists, and constructors. More than that, we are people who believe nothing great is made alone. For nearly 70 years, across every generation of leadership, the same values have held. That continuity is not an accident—it is something we protect.
What Design Means to Us
Design is one of the most human things we do. It takes curiosity, conviction, and the willingness to care deeply about how something is experienced, not just how it functions. We are looking for people who get genuinely excited about ideas and find real meaning in the work itself.
How We Work
We work the way we think: collaboratively and with intent. Every person here brings something distinct, and we lean into that. We surround ourselves with people who challenge and complement us—who take ownership not just of their work but of each other's growth. We believe complacency is not an option, and we stay curious because we enjoy what we do.
The Role
You are not here to execute tasks. You are here to transform ideas into places, experiences, and outcomes.

Why This Matters

Tips for Your Architectural Designer Job Search
Tailor your portfolio to each submission
Firms hiring architectural designers want to see work that mirrors their project type. Swap out residential renders when applying to a commercial studio, and lead with construction documents if the posting emphasizes CD-phase experience. A one-size portfolio rarely advances past the first screen.
List your software stack front and center
Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, and BIM coordination tools appear in almost every architectural designer posting. Name the specific versions you use and any Enscape or Lumion rendering experience. Burying software skills in a footnote costs you applicant-tracking system matches.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists architectural designer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by project type, not just title
Architectural designer postings vary enormously by firm focus. Search for the project type you want alongside the title, such as multifamily, healthcare, or historic preservation, to reach listings where your specific portfolio experience is actually relevant.
Prepare a design narrative before your interview
Most architectural designer interviews include a portfolio walkthrough. Practice explaining your role on each project, the design problem you solved, and any constraints you worked within. Interviewers probe to separate team contributors from individual decision-makers, so be specific about what you owned.
Negotiate beyond base salary in design offers
Architectural designer offers often have flexibility on professional development stipends, licensure exam reimbursement, and hybrid schedule terms even when base pay is fixed. Raise those points after an offer is extended, once you have confirmed interest from both sides.
Architectural Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most architectural designers?
The companies hiring the most architectural designers right now include Stantec, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, and Studios Architecture, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Michigan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is heaviest among mid-size design-build firms and multifamily developers actively expanding their in-house design teams.
How many architectural designer jobs are remote?
About 23% of architectural designer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than in many other design disciplines because site visits and in-person client coordination are common. Roles focused on early-phase concept design, interior design development, or visualization tend to have more remote flexibility than those tied to construction administration.
How do you become an architectural designer?
You become an architectural designer by earning an accredited degree in architecture, then building practical experience through internships or entry-level roles where you work on real projects across design and documentation phases. Most positions expect proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD before your first day. Pursuing ARE licensure while working strengthens your profile and opens senior roles faster.
How do you get hired as an architectural designer with little or no experience?
Employers hiring junior architectural designers focus heavily on portfolio quality and software skills rather than years on the job. Lead with academic or freelance projects that show construction document work, not just concept renderings. Targeting smaller residential or interior-focused firms gives you faster exposure to the full project cycle, which strengthens your profile for larger studios later.
What does the architectural designer interview process look like?
Most architectural designer interviews begin with a portfolio walkthrough where you walk the hiring team through two or three projects in depth, explaining your specific contribution and design decisions. A technical conversation about software, code compliance, or coordination workflow typically follows. Final rounds at larger firms may include a paid design exercise or a meeting with project leads whose teams you would join.
Where can I find and apply to architectural designer jobs?
You can find and apply to architectural designer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles by location, project type, or seniority, then apply directly to each listing that fits your background. There is no separate sign-up step required to submit an application.
