Mid Level Building Automation Systems Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level building automation systems job?
Position your experience around full-project ownership rather than task execution. Highlight hands-on work with BAS platforms such as Niagara, Tridium, or Johnson Controls Metasys, along with demonstrated ability to commission systems, troubleshoot HVAC controls independently, and read or write sequence-of-operations documentation. Employers at this level want to see that you can take a project from programming through startup with minimal supervision, so emphasize those specific outcomes in your resume and interviews.
Which companies hire mid level building automation systems engineers?
Companies hiring mid level building automation systems engineers right now include Siemens, Graymatter, and SBF Search, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a broad mix of mechanical and electrical contractors, facilities management firms, and technology integrators that run ongoing retrofit and new-construction programs requiring experienced controls professionals.
Are there remote mid level building automation systems jobs?
Yes, though most roles require significant on-site presence given the physical nature of commissioning and troubleshooting. About 0% of mid level building automation systems openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and these tend to involve graphics development, remote monitoring, or engineering design work that does not require hands-on access to mechanical equipment.
How do I move up to a mid level building automation systems role?
Growth from entry level to mid level typically comes from accumulating independent project experience across multiple building types, deepening proficiency in at least one major BAS platform, and gradually taking ownership of complete system startups rather than assisting senior technicians. Demonstrating that you can write sequences of operation, interpret mechanical drawings, and resolve controls issues without escalation signals readiness for mid level responsibilities to hiring managers.
Which industries hire the most mid level building automation systems engineers?
Mid level building automation systems roles concentrate in Distribution & Wholesale, Manufacturing, and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring because large commercial, healthcare, and institutional facilities require ongoing controls upgrades, energy optimization programs, and code-compliant system replacements that depend on experienced automation professionals.
