Business Development Director Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a business development director job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's dominant sectors: oil and gas services, healthcare systems, industrial technology, and commercial real estate. Employers in the Energy Corridor and Texas Medical Center hire directors with proven client acquisition experience in those verticals. Candidates who can demonstrate revenue growth within energy or life sciences, two industries where Houston competes globally, consistently stand out over generalists with comparable titles.
Which companies hire business development directors in Houston?
Companies currently hiring business development directors in Houston include IQVIA, Rimkus, and JLM Logistics, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's employer mix skews toward energy services firms, large hospital networks, engineering consultancies, and mid-market technology companies with Gulf Coast operations.
Are there remote business development director jobs in Houston?
Yes, though partially: business development director roles depend heavily on in-person relationship-building, so fully remote openings are less common than in purely analytical roles. About 56% of business development director openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most prevalent at technology and SaaS companies based in Greenway Plaza and Midtown.
How can I get a business development director job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Houston is to move up through a sales or account management role at an energy services, logistics, or healthcare company first. Houston employers including oilfield services firms and hospital-affiliated ventures regularly promote from senior sales representatives or regional account managers into director-level development roles. Building a network through Houston's energy industry associations or the Greater Houston Partnership accelerates that transition considerably.
Which industries hire the most business development directors in Houston?
Houston business development director roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Accounting & Auditing, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's position as the global center of the energy industry, combined with the Texas Medical Center and a growing technology corridor, creates sustained demand for directors who can open new markets across all three sectors.
