Role: Business Development Professional
Reports to: Vice President of Business Development
About Metcon
Metcon, Inc. is a commercial general contractor specializing in construction management, negotiated, design-build, and select hard-bid projects. The Business Development Professional is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, cultivating and maintaining client relationships, and supporting company growth. This role requires strategic planning, coordination, and execution of initiatives to expand market presence and secure profitable projects. The Business Development Professional will ensure company objectives are met in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Metcon.
Key Responsibilities
Market Analysis and Strategy Development:
- Conduct comprehensive market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and the competitive, political, and regional landscape.
- Develop and implement strategic business development plans to enter new markets and expand existing ones.
- Monitor industry developments and anticipate changes to proactively address challenges and opportunities.
Client Relationship Management:
- Establish and nurture long-term relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Understand client needs and provide tailored solutions to enhance satisfaction.
- Conduct meetings and presentations as needed to present company capabilities and project proposals.
- Drive the closing of sales by aligning proposals with client goals and effectively negotiating terms to secure new business.
- Maintain a high level of client satisfaction to encourage loyalty and repeat business.
Project Pursuits:
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities through networking, lead generation, and industry events.
- Support Marketing in preparing detailed project proposals, presentations, and communications for potential clients.
- Execute overall pursuit strategies consistent with Metcon’s business development objectives.
Collaboration and Team Leadership:
- Work closely with the VP of Business Development, internal teams, division leaders, Project Executives, Preconstruction, Engineers, and Architects to align strategies and goals.
- Lead cross-functional efforts in executing business development initiatives and ensure project success.
- Attend industry events, coordinate logistics, and assist with marketing setup.
- Support workforce development efforts targeting specific clients.
- Foster a collaborative and forward-thinking work environment.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Participate in weekly strategy meetings with your direct report to establish pursuit plans and key business development actions.
- Continuously refine tactics based on market feedback to improve business development outcomes.
Working Conditions
- This position requires travel and occasional overnight stays to meet with clients and attend industry events.
- Flexibility in work hours is required to accommodate client and project needs.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Minimum Qualifications and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Construction Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High level of emotional intelligence and integrity.
- Demonstrated proactive approach to problem-solving and conflict management.
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Travel is required; valid driver’s license is mandatory.
