Business Intelligence Engineer Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business intelligence engineer in North Carolina?
Business intelligence engineering in North Carolina does not require a state-issued license. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, or a closely related field. From there, candidates build toward roles by developing proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and at least one major BI tool. Earning a vendor credential from Tableau, Microsoft, or AWS carries weight with North Carolina employers, particularly in the finance and health care sectors centered in Charlotte and the Research Triangle.
How much do business intelligence engineers make in North Carolina?
Business intelligence engineers in North Carolina earn a median of about $119,090 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,970 for the lowest 10% to over $172,830 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence engineers in North Carolina?
Employers hiring business intelligence engineers in North Carolina right now include Moore & Van Allen, Inmar, and Xylem, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. North Carolina's concentration of large financial institutions, academic medical centers, and technology firms in the Research Triangle Park area makes it one of the more consistent hiring markets for this role in the Southeast.
Which North Carolina cities have the most business intelligence engineer jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and North Carolina have the most business intelligence engineer openings in North Carolina. Charlotte leads because of its deep concentration of financial services firms and corporate headquarters, while Raleigh and Durham are driven by the technology companies, university medical systems, and life sciences organizations clustered around Research Triangle Park.
Are there remote business intelligence engineer jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields, given that business intelligence engineering is inherently desk-based and output-driven. About 71% of business intelligence engineer openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how broadly North Carolina employers have adopted flexible arrangements for analytical roles. Data pipeline work and dashboard development are the tasks most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a business intelligence engineer in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior data analyst role, which North Carolina employers in finance and health care regularly fill from new graduates. Large employers like Duke Health and the major Charlotte-based banks run rotational analyst programs that serve as a structured on-ramp. Building a portfolio of SQL queries, a documented data model, and a published Tableau or Power BI dashboard gives candidates a concrete edge. Adjacent roles in data quality, reporting, or business analysis also serve as a common lateral move into BI engineering.
Where can I find and apply to business intelligence engineer jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to business intelligence engineer jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current North Carolina openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to the employers posting them.
