Business Office Associate Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business office associate in South Dakota?
Most business office associate positions in South Dakota require a high school diploma or GED, though employers increasingly prefer candidates with an associate degree in business administration or health information management. South Dakota does not require a state license for this role, but completing a medical billing or coding certificate through a program at Southeast Technical College or Lake Area Technical College can make candidates significantly more competitive. Familiarity with revenue cycle software is expected at most healthcare employers.
Which companies hire business office associates in South Dakota?
Employers hiring business office associates in South Dakota right now include Heartland Appliance and Repair, Canton, and Aspen Dental, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Healthcare systems and regional financial services companies account for the largest share of openings in the state, with Sioux Falls serving as the primary hub for full-time business office roles.
Which South Dakota cities have the most business office associate jobs?
Sioux Falls, Brandon, and Rapid City have the most business office associate openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads because it is home to the state's largest healthcare campuses and financial services employers, while Rapid City and Aberdeen draw openings through Monument Health, Avera St. Luke's, and regional banking operations that maintain dedicated billing and administrative teams.
Are there remote business office associate jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, and they are more available than in many office roles, since a significant portion of business office work, including insurance verification, billing follow-up, and patient account management, can be handled remotely. About 0% of business office associate openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a shift among larger health systems toward flexible billing department arrangements. Revenue cycle and billing-focused positions tend to offer the most remote options.
How can I get hired as a business office associate in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a patient services representative or billing assistant position at one of South Dakota's large health systems, where on-the-job training is common. Sanford Health and Avera Health both hire candidates without direct business office experience into support roles and promote internally. Completing a medical billing certificate at Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls or Lake Area Technical College in Watertown gives applicants a measurable edge. Lateral moves from customer service or front desk reception roles at clinics are also a well-established way in.
