Business Systems Analyst Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business systems analyst in Maryland?
Business systems analysts in Maryland do not require a state-issued license, but employers consistently expect a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or business. The most direct path is pairing that degree with a recognized certification such as the Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or the PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA). Maryland's concentration of government contractors and healthcare systems means candidates who also understand federal IT frameworks or HIPAA compliance stand out early in the hiring process.
How much do business systems analysts make in Maryland?
Business systems analysts in Maryland earn a median of about $113,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,610 for the lowest 10% to over $171,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business systems analysts in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring business systems analysts in Maryland include FEI Systems, Lockheed Martin, and CVS Health, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maryland's strong government contracting corridor and large health insurance sector mean demand is consistent across both private enterprise and federally focused organizations headquartered or operating in the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most business systems analyst jobs?
The cities with the most business systems analyst openings in Maryland are Baltimore, Maryland, and Bethesda. The distribution reflects the Baltimore metro's dense concentration of healthcare systems and financial institutions, while the D.C. suburban corridor draws demand from federal agencies and the large defense and IT contractors that support them, making the I-270 and Route 1 corridors particularly active outside the city proper.
Are there remote business systems analyst jobs in Maryland?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business systems analysis is fundamentally a desk-based, documentation-driven discipline that translates well to distributed teams. About 76% of business systems analyst openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how widely this role has shifted away from on-site requirements. Requirements gathering, process modeling, and sprint ceremonies are the portions of the work most commonly performed remotely, while stakeholder workshops and go-live support often still require occasional in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a business systems analyst in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an adjacent role such as junior project coordinator, QA analyst, or data analyst, which are common stepping-stone titles at Maryland's large healthcare systems and government contractors. Organizations like SAIC, Johns Hopkins Health System, and CareFirst periodically post associate or junior business analyst roles aimed at recent graduates. Earning an entry-level certification such as the IIBA Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA) and building a portfolio of documented process flows or use cases drawn from academic or volunteer projects gives candidates a concrete edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to business systems analyst jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to business systems analyst jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings in one place. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and target industry, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
