What Employers Look For
The qualifications that appear most often in CAE engineer jobs.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering or a closely related field
- Hands-on experience with at least one major FEA or CFD solver such as Abaqus, Nastran, ANSYS, or STAR-CCM+
- Ability to interpret and correlate simulation results against physical test or experimental data
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks for geometry preparation and mesh generation
- Understanding of material models, failure criteria, and loading conditions relevant to the target industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting simulation findings to cross-functional engineering teams
Tips for Your CAE Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to solver types
Hiring managers scan for the specific solvers you've used, whether Abaqus, Nastran, ANSYS, or LS-DYNA. List each one explicitly alongside the problem type it solved, such as crash, fatigue, or thermal, so your resume clears automated filters and lands in front of a technical reviewer.
Quantify simulation accuracy in results
Vague claims like 'ran FEA models' don't differentiate you. Describe correlation results between your simulation and physical test data, the mesh sizes you managed, or the design weight reductions your analysis enabled, so reviewers can gauge the scale and rigor of your work.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists cae engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target job titles beyond CAE Engineer
Openings for your skill set are also posted as Simulation Engineer, FEA Analyst, Structural Analysis Engineer, and CFD Engineer. Searching all relevant titles ensures you don't miss roles that match your background simply because the employer used different terminology.
Prepare a simulation portfolio with visuals
Many cae engineer interviews include a technical screen where you walk through past models. Compile two or three documented case studies showing your mesh strategy, boundary conditions, validation approach, and the engineering decision your analysis informed, so you can share your screen confidently.
Negotiate around software license access
When evaluating an offer, ask which CAE software the team holds enterprise licenses for, since access to Abaqus or STAR-CCM+ in-house versus relying on cloud credits affects your day-to-day capability. This detail signals technical seriousness and can surface a real differentiator between similar offers.
CAE Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most cae engineers?
The companies hiring the most cae engineers right now include Global Connect Technologies, Goken America, and Rivian, with the largest share of openings in Ohio, California, and Michigan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Automotive OEMs, aerospace primes, and defense contractors consistently account for the majority of active postings.
How many cae engineer jobs are remote?
About 14% of cae engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with remote availability concentrated in CFD and structural analysis roles where physical hardware access is not required. Positions tied to crash testing, NVH labs, or hardware validation programs are more likely to require on-site presence.
How do you become a cae engineer?
Start with a bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering, then build simulation skills by working through a major solver's academic license during coursework or personal projects. Gain industry exposure through internships or entry-level roles focused on FEA or CFD, document your validation methodology carefully, and pursue solver-specific certifications when they're available to strengthen your profile for specialized roles.
How do you get hired as a cae engineer with little experience?
Apply for roles with titles like Junior Simulation Engineer or FEA Analyst, which typically have lower experience thresholds. Supplement limited work history with a documented project portfolio showing mesh convergence studies, boundary condition rationale, and comparison against published or experimental data. Proficiency in open-source tools like OpenFOAM or Code_Aster also demonstrates initiative when commercial solver access has been limited.
What does the cae engineer interview process look like?
Most processes begin with a recruiter screen focused on tool experience and industry background, followed by a technical phone or video interview where you walk through a past simulation project in detail. A take-home or live modeling exercise is common, testing your ability to set up boundary conditions and interpret results under time pressure. Final rounds usually include a panel with senior engineers and a hiring manager focused on problem-solving approach and communication of findings.
Where can I find and apply to cae engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to cae engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search for roles that match your solver background, seniority level, and target industry, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
