Tips for Your Cardiologist Job Search
Tailor your CV to the practice setting
Academic cardiology programs weight research output and fellowship training heavily, while private and community practices prioritize procedure volume and patient throughput. Adjust the order and emphasis of your CV sections depending on whether you're targeting a hospital system, academic center, or independent group.
Highlight board certification status clearly
Cardiology positions almost universally require or prefer ABIM board certification in cardiovascular disease. State your certification status, subspecialty boards such as interventional or electrophysiology, and any pending exams in a dedicated credentials section near the top of your CV.
Filter openings by subspecialty before applying
Interventional, structural heart, electrophysiology, heart failure, and general cardiology roles each carry distinct call responsibilities and cath lab expectations. Match your fellowship training and procedure log to the posted subspecialty before applying so your application addresses the specific clinical needs of that program.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists cardiologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for case-based clinical interviews
Cardiology interviews frequently include scenario questions on managing acute MI, arrhythmia workup, or complex heart failure cases. Practice walking through your clinical reasoning out loud, referencing ACC and AHA guideline thresholds, so your decision-making process is transparent to the panel.
Negotiate call schedule alongside compensation
In cardiology, call frequency and after-hours procedures can vary dramatically between positions with similar base salaries. Ask directly about overnight interventional call, weekend coverage expectations, and whether call is shared with advanced practice providers before you accept any offer.
Cardiologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most cardiologists?
The companies hiring the most cardiologists right now include Medical University of South Carolina, Cleveland Clinic, and CommonSpirit Health, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, Florida, and South Carolina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings at large health systems and multispecialty groups tend to refresh most frequently, so checking back regularly increases your chances of catching a new posting.
How many cardiologist jobs are remote?
About 10% of cardiologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical cardiology roles. Remote opportunities are most common in telemedicine cardiology consults, remote cardiac monitoring interpretation, and utilization management or physician advisory positions that do not require direct patient procedures.
How do you become a cardiologist?
You become a cardiologist by completing medical school, then a three-year internal medicine residency, followed by a three-year fellowship in cardiovascular disease accredited by the ACGME. After fellowship you sit for ABIM board certification in cardiovascular disease. Subspecialties such as interventional cardiology or electrophysiology require one to two additional years of advanced fellowship training beyond the general cardiology fellowship.
How do you get hired as a cardiologist with limited attending experience?
Most employers treat fellowship completion as the baseline for attending-level hiring, so limited post-training experience is rarely a disqualifier on its own. Emphasize your procedure volume from fellowship, any moonlighting or locum work, and letters of recommendation from fellowship program directors. Smaller community hospitals and federally qualified health centers often recruit new attendings more actively than large academic systems and can provide strong early-career experience.
What does the cardiologist interview process look like?
The process typically begins with a phone or video screen with physician recruitment or a department chief, followed by an on-site visit that includes tours of the cath lab, echo lab, or EP suite depending on your subspecialty. You'll meet with division leadership, potential partners, and sometimes hospital administration. Clinical case discussions and a review of your procedure log are common, and a contract presentation usually follows a successful site visit.
Where can I find and apply to cardiologist jobs?
You can find and apply to cardiologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from health systems, academic medical centers, private practices, and multispecialty groups across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your subspecialty and practice setting, then apply directly to each position that fits.
