Clinical Case Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical case manager in California?
The most direct path is earning a clinical license in California, typically an RN license through the California Board of Registered Nursing or a social work license such as LCSW through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Most employers require at least a bachelor's degree in nursing, social work, or a related field. Many also expect or strongly prefer the Certified Case Manager credential, offered by the Commission for Case Manager Certification.
Which companies hire clinical case managers in California?
Employers hiring clinical case managers in California right now include Clinica Sierra Vista, Kindred Hospitals, and CorVel Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large managed care sector, anchored by Medi-Cal health plans and integrated health systems, drives consistent statewide demand for this role year-round.
Which California cities have the most clinical case manager jobs?
Bakersfield, Fresno, and Los Angeles have the most clinical case manager openings in California. Los Angeles generates the highest volume because of its dense concentration of county behavioral health contracts, managed care plans, and major hospital systems, while San Diego and the Bay Area follow closely due to large integrated health networks and a high proportion of Medi-Cal managed care enrollees.
Are there remote clinical case manager jobs in California?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely administrative roles because clinical case management often involves in-person assessments and facility coordination. About 11% of clinical case manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting selective flexibility from managed care plans and telephonic case management programs. Telephonic utilization review and chronic disease management positions are the most consistently remote.
How can I get hired as a clinical case manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is working first in a direct care role, such as medical social worker, discharge planner, or utilization review coordinator, which are common bridge positions at California hospital systems like Kaiser Permanente and Dignity Health. Many county behavioral health departments across California hire associate case managers or care coordinators without full case management experience. Earning a Certified Case Manager credential or completing a case management internship through an accredited California graduate social work program adds a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to clinical case manager jobs in California?
You can find and apply to clinical case manager jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across managed care, hospital systems, behavioral health, and county programs. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly.
