Clinical Case Manager Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical case manager in Montana?
Most clinical case manager positions in Montana require at minimum a bachelor's degree in social work, nursing, counseling, or a closely related field, with a master's degree preferred for clinical roles. Many employers require or strongly prefer licensure through the Montana Board of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors, such as an LCSW or LPC credential. Candidates who sit for the Commission for Case Manager Certification exam gain a meaningful edge when competing for managed care and health system roles.
Which companies hire clinical case managers in Montana?
Montana clinical case manager roles are posted by Aware, Benefis Health System, and AWARE and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's hiring activity is especially strong at health systems, Medicaid managed care organizations, and county behavioral health programs serving both urban centers and frontier communities.
Which Montana cities have the most clinical case manager jobs?
Missoula, Bozeman, and Billings have the most clinical case manager openings in Montana. Billings leads because it is the state's largest city and home to regional health systems and behavioral health networks, while Missoula's concentration of university-affiliated and nonprofit health organizations and Great Falls' anchoring VA and Indian Health Service facilities sustain consistent demand outside the largest metro.
Are there remote clinical case manager jobs in Montana?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since much of the role involves in-person assessments, home visits, and care coordination with local providers. About 13% of clinical case manager openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a meaningful but selective share of the market. Telephonic case management and utilization review positions within managed care organizations are the sub-areas most frequently offered on a remote basis.
How can I get hired as a clinical case manager in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to apply for care coordinator, community health worker, or behavioral health technician roles at large Montana health systems like Billings Clinic or Providence Health, which regularly hire candidates without full case management experience and provide on-the-job training. Completing a supervised internship through a Montana university social work or counseling program counts toward supervised hours required for licensure and signals readiness to employers. Earning a Certified Case Manager credential early, even before accruing full experience hours, strengthens applications to managed care and tribal health programs across the state.
