Medical Doctor Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Montana?
To practice as a medical doctor in Montana, you must hold a license issued by the Montana Board of Medical Examiners, which requires completion of an accredited MD or DO program, passage of the USMLE or COMLEX licensing examinations, and completion of at least one year of postgraduate training. After licensure, many Montana employers also require board certification in your specialty. The Board of Medical Examiners handles all applications, verifications, and renewals directly.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Montana?
Montana medical doctor roles are posted by Benefis Health System, Bozeman Health, and Logan Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Large integrated health systems and critical access hospitals across Montana's rural counties are among the most active and consistent recruiters of physicians at all career levels.
Which Montana cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Great Falls, Missoula, and Billings have the most medical doctor openings in Montana. Billings drives the largest share of listings as the state's most populous city and home to regional referral centers, while Missoula's concentration of academic and specialty care and Great Falls' role as a hub for north-central Montana's rural population sustain steady physician demand in those markets.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 18% of medical doctor openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, patient-facing nature of most physician roles. The areas most likely to offer any remote component are telemedicine and psychiatric or behavioral health consultations, where Montana's rural geography has accelerated virtual care adoption.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a residency or fellowship program at a Montana-affiliated teaching site, with Billings Clinic and Providence St. Patrick Hospital both sponsoring residency programs that transition directly into employment. New graduates without prior attending experience can also pursue locum tenens placements at Montana's many critical access hospitals, which routinely onboard early-career physicians. Holding an active Montana Board of Medical Examiners license and demonstrating rural medicine training gives candidates a meaningful edge in this market.
