Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for an Inpatient Ortho/Neuro Unit requiring MT or compact RN license and NIHSS certification.
Details
- Inpatient Ortho/Neuro Unit with 35 beds and average daily census of 32-35 patients
- Patient population includes ortho cases (hip/knee/shoulder replacements, fractures, spinal surgeries), neuro cases (stroke, TIA, seizure monitoring, post-op cranies), and medical overflow (CHF, COPD, CIWA)
- Day shift ratios of 1:4-5 and night shift ratios of 1:5-6
- 12-hour shifts, 7A-7P, 36 hours per week
- EMR: Cerner
- Uses Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system
- Supported by CNAs, HUC, charge nurse, admit/discharge RN, phlebotomy, PICC team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- May float to other areas of the hospital with Med/Surg patients, with travelers floated first
- No on-call requirements
- No guaranteed block scheduling; shifts assigned within 8-week scheduling cycles
Requirements
- Active MT or compact RN license required
- BLS and NIHSS certification required (AHA NIHSS not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
- Proficiency with NIHSS assessments performed every shift for neuro patients
- Skilled in NG tube insertion/maintenance, PEG tube feeds, dysphagia screening, PIV starts, foley insertion, wound care/wound vacs, PCA pumps, cardiac rhythm interpretation, blood and IVIG administration, and external fixation pin care
- Experience mobilizing ortho patients with precautions
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for ortho, neuro, and medical overflow patients on a high-acuity unit
- Orientation includes NEO and 2 shifts of department-specific orientation
- No set weekend rotation, though facility will try to limit weekend scheduling for travelers
- Holiday coverage may be required for up to 50% of holidays within the contract period
- RTO requests must be approved through the unit manager
- Scrubs must be a solid professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
