We are a growing private practice seeking an experienced part-time Revenue Cycle, Coding, and Credentialing Specialist. Our practice uses AthenaOne, and claims are already created and submitted by our clinical team. This role will focus on reviewing visits for coding and billing accuracy, monitoring accounts receivable, following up on unpaid or incorrectly processed claims, identifying downcoding and underpayments, managing appeals, and overseeing provider credentialing and enrollment.

The ideal candidate has strong AthenaOne experience and can independently identify reimbursement issues and follow them through resolution. Experience with behavioral health, primary care, E/M coding, psychotherapy add-on codes, and payer credentialing is strongly preferred.

This is a remote, flexible contractor position with opportunities for increased hours and responsibility as our company continues to grow.

Responsibilities include:

• Review visit documentation, CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, modifiers, and claim details for accuracy and appropriate billing
• Identify coding errors, missed billing opportunities, modifier issues, and payer-specific claim requirements
• Monitor Athena accounts receivable and follow up on unpaid, delayed, rejected, or denied claims
• Review EOBs and ERAs for inappropriate downcoding, bundling, underpayments, and discrepancies between payments and contracted fee schedules
• Correct and resubmit claims when appropriate
• Prepare and follow through on reconsiderations and appeals
• Track payer trends and identify recurring reimbursement problems
• Manage provider credentialing, enrollment, recredentialing, and demographic updates
• Maintain CAQH profiles and assist with payer portals, EFT/ERA enrollment, Medicare enrollment, and roster updates
• Maintain a clear credentialing and payer follow-up tracker
• Provide a brief monthly report summarizing A/R, denials, underpayments, appeals, credentialing status, and recommended changes

Preferred qualifications:

• At least three years of medical billing, coding, revenue cycle, or credentialing experience
• Strong hands-on experience with AthenaOne or Athena Collector
• Experience working with small outpatient practices
• Experience with psychiatry, primary care, E/M coding, and psychotherapy add-on codes preferred
• CPC, CPB, CCS, or similar certification preferred
• Familiarity with commercial insurance, Medicare, TRICARE/USFHP, and payer credentialing
• Ability to independently identify payment discrepancies and follow issues through resolution
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

This is a remote, part-time contractor position with flexible hours and meaningful opportunities for increased hours and responsibility as the practice grows.

Compensation: $35 to $45 per hour, depending on Athena, coding, A/R, and credentialing experience. Additional hours require prior approval.

Pay: $35.00 - $61,468.80 per hour
