Communications Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a communications job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's dominant sectors: energy and petrochemical companies clustered in the Energy Corridor, large health systems anchored in the Texas Medical Center, and the city's growing nonprofit and civic sector downtown. Employers here value candidates who can translate complex technical or policy information for public audiences. Local experience with Houston media outlets or community organizations strengthens your application considerably.
Which companies hire communicationss in Houston?

The local market skews toward large energy corporations, hospital systems, and municipal agencies, all of which maintain sizable in-house communications teams.
Are there remote communications jobs in Houston?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role: strategic, content, and digital communications work goes remote far more often than community relations or event-facing positions. About 71% of communications openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting broader industry trends. Digital and social media roles within Houston's energy and healthcare sectors are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get a communications job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through internships or coordinator roles at the city's large hospital systems or energy companies, both of which run structured programs for early-career communicators. Volunteering with Houston-area nonprofits or civic organizations builds a portfolio quickly. Entry-level roles in social media coordination or communications assistant positions at Houston independent school districts are also accessible starting points with clear growth tracks.
