About The Job
Blackbird is building a small, high-leverage Strategy & Growth team, and the Lead Analyst is its analytical core. The function decides where Blackbird should grow, how it should grow, and where it should invest growth resources. The Lead Analyst owns how those decisions get measured: the metrics, the models, and the experiments that show whether a growth initiative is working and what to change. You will report to the Head of Strategy & Growth and work alongside a Strategy & Operations Manager. The role is hands-on and carries real ownership. You will define the metrics the company runs on, build the marketplace models behind major growth initiatives, and set the analytical bar for the function.
Responsibilities
- Own Blackbird’s growth measurement framework. Define the success metrics, guardrails, and targets for each major growth initiative, then measure performance, validate assumptions, and flag the gaps.
- Build and maintain the analytical layer behind the Cockpit, market scorecards, and growth ROI reporting that leadership and the Board rely on.
- Turn open-ended strategic questions about where to grow next and which investments are paying off into clear, defensible analysis and recommendations.
- Build the models that drive both sides of the marketplace: restaurant composite scoring, market and neighborhood targeting, customer and behavioral segmentation, and Fly Load and lifecycle value models.
- Identify which restaurants and customers create the most long-term value and which behaviors strengthen the marketplace flywheel across TPV, MPU, DPU, retention, and Fly Load growth.
- Stand up the experimentation framework that lets Growth learn quickly, with a high bar for statistical rigor and causal measurement.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Restaurants to instrument initiatives, define the data we need, and read out results.
- Build lightweight tooling and automation with Product and Engineering to speed up analysis and cut manual reporting.
Requirements
- 8+ years in analytics, data science, growth analytics, or a quantitative strategy role, ideally at a high-growth marketplace, fintech, payments, or consumer tech company.
- Expert SQL and a strong analytical toolkit in Python or R for modeling, segmentation, and experimentation, including the ability to write and optimize complex queries over large datasets.
- A track record of turning messy data into decisions that moved a core business metric, with the judgment to know which metric matters.
- Deep experience with experimentation and A/B testing, plus causal measurement methods such as incrementality and holdouts.
- Fluency in marketplace, growth, and unit-economics concepts such as TPV, retention, LTV, ROI, and cohort analysis.
- Experience with BI tools such as Amplitude, Looker, Mode, or Metabase.
- Clear communication with senior audiences, with the ability to take an analysis from the numbers to a recommendation leadership can act on.
- Comfort working with autonomy and ambiguity on a founding team.
Nice to Haves
- Experience building or owning a metrics layer or BI environment such as Metabase, Looker, or dbt.
- Background in management consulting, corporate strategy, or a strong growth or analytics team.
- Experience with incentive design, pricing, or paid-acquisition measurement.
- Experience in the restaurant or hospitality industry, or familiarity with crypto and token-based loyalty economics.

Target technical roles that align with H-1B specialty occupation requirements
Blackbird Labs operates in fintech and consumer tech, so software engineering, backend infrastructure, and product-adjacent technical roles are your strongest bet for H-1B sponsorship. Generic business roles are far less likely to qualify.
Approach Blackbird Labs as a startup sponsor, not a large-enterprise one
As a technology startup, Blackbird Labs sponsors selectively rather than at scale. Tailor your application to demonstrate exceptional technical fit, startups prioritize candidates who solve a specific, immediate problem on the team.
Get your H-1B timeline straight before reaching out
H-1B sponsorship requires employer action well before your start date. Research the lottery registration window and cap-subject filing deadlines so you can have an informed conversation with Blackbird Labs recruiters about timing from day one.
Emphasize startup-relevant skills in your application
Blackbird Labs values builders who move fast and wear multiple hats. Highlighting experience in early-stage environments, consumer product development, or fintech infrastructure signals you'll contribute quickly, a key concern for startups evaluating sponsorship investment.
Filter for verified sponsors before you apply
Confirming a company's real sponsorship history saves wasted applications. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and identify companies like Blackbird Labs that have actively filed for H-1B workers.
Engage the company through its product community, not just job boards
Blackbird Labs has a consumer-facing product with an active user community. Engaging authentically with the product before applying can differentiate you, showing genuine alignment with the company's mission beyond a standard resume submission.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Blackbird Labs sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, Blackbird Labs sponsors H-1B visas. The company has an active sponsorship history in the Technology and Software industry, making it a viable option for international candidates in technical roles. Sponsorship at a startup like Blackbird Labs tends to be role-specific, so candidates in software engineering and technical product functions have the strongest prospects.
What types of roles at Blackbird Labs are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
H-1B sponsorship at Blackbird Labs is most commonly associated with technical specialty occupations, roles in software engineering, backend systems, and technology infrastructure. These roles align with H-1B's specialty occupation requirement, which mandates a direct connection between the position and a specific field of study. Business operations and non-technical roles are unlikely sponsorship candidates.
How do I find open visa-sponsored jobs at Blackbird Labs?
The most efficient way is to use Migrate Mate, which aggregates job openings from verified H-1B sponsors and lets you filter by company, visa type, and industry. Because Blackbird Labs operates as a startup, open roles can be limited and move quickly, setting up alerts for new postings at the company will help you apply before positions close.
What is the typical application timeline for H-1B sponsorship at a company like Blackbird Labs?
The H-1B process is deadline-driven. Your employer must register you in the USCIS lottery, which opens in March each year. If selected, the petition is filed by April 1, with an employment start date of October 1 at the earliest. That means you should secure an offer at least six to eight months before your intended start date to allow sufficient processing time.
Is Blackbird Labs a reliable long-term sponsorship partner for international workers?
Blackbird Labs has demonstrated a willingness to sponsor H-1B workers, which is a meaningful signal for international candidates. That said, startup sponsorship environments can shift with funding cycles and headcount changes. Candidates should assess the company's financial trajectory and growth stage alongside its sponsorship history when evaluating whether it's a stable long-term fit.
