Align your degree to BCG's specialty occupation standard
BCG's Professional Services Consultant roles require a directly related degree field, not just any bachelor's. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims closely in consulting, so frame your academic background around the specific practice area you're targeting, whether that's operations, technology, or healthcare.
Target BCG's structured recruiting cycles early
BCG hires Professional Services Consultants through MBA and advanced-degree recruiting cycles with fixed timelines. Missing the fall recruiting window typically means waiting a full year, so align your application and OPT or visa timing to those cycles, not a rolling calendar.
Clarify your visa category before the offer stage
BCG sponsors multiple visa types for this role, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Knowing which category applies to your nationality before offer negotiations prevents last-minute confusion and lets you ask informed questions about filing timelines during the offer process.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active BCG openings
BCG posts Professional Services Consultant roles across practice areas and offices, and availability shifts by region and intake cycle. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track verified sponsorship-eligible openings at BCG so you're applying to positions actively seeking international candidates.
Confirm your OPT start date aligns with BCG's onboarding
If you're on F-1 OPT, BCG's onboarding cohorts run on fixed dates. A misaligned OPT start date can leave a gap that forces a cap-gap situation or delays your start. Coordinate with BCG's HR team and confirm your I-20 OPT authorization reflects the correct employment start date.
Prepare for a DOL prevailing wage review in consulting
For H-1B and E-3 filings, BCG must certify your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Consulting wages in cities like New York or San Francisco are benchmarked at higher wage levels, so understand where your offered compensation lands relative to DOL wage tiers before signing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Consulting Group sponsor H-1B visas for Professional Services Consultants?
Yes, BCG sponsors H-1B visas for Professional Services Consultants. Because the H-1B is subject to the annual lottery, BCG typically files petitions in April for an October 1 start date. If you're already on OPT, cap-gap protection can cover the gap between your OPT expiration and H-1B activation while the petition is pending.
How do I apply for Professional Services Consultant jobs at Boston Consulting Group?
BCG recruits Professional Services Consultants primarily through structured campus and experienced-hire cycles tied to specific intake dates. Applications go through BCG's careers portal, and most successful candidates come through referrals or on-campus recruiting events. Migrate Mate lists verified sponsorship-eligible BCG openings so you can identify active roles and apply directly through the right channel.
Which visa types does Boston Consulting Group commonly use for Professional Services Consultant roles?
BCG sponsors several visa categories for this role depending on your nationality and situation. H-1B is the most common path for non-specialty nationals. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and allows faster processing. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN visa status. F-1 OPT and CPT are also used for students early in the hiring pipeline.
What qualifications does BCG expect for Professional Services Consultant candidates seeking sponsorship?
BCG typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a field directly relevant to the consulting practice area, such as economics, engineering, business, or computer science. For USCIS H-1B purposes, your degree must demonstrate a direct connection to the role's duties. Prior internship experience at a consulting firm or in a relevant industry strengthens both the candidacy and the specialty occupation argument in the visa petition.
How do visa sponsorship timelines affect when I can start at BCG?
Timing depends on your visa type. H-1B petitions filed in April have an October 1 earliest start date under the regular cap. E-3 and TN processing moves faster and can support earlier start dates if BCG's onboarding cohort allows it. OPT transitions to H-1B require cap-gap monitoring if your OPT expires before October 1. Clarifying your preferred start date with BCG's HR team early prevents scheduling conflicts.
