Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
BKF Engineers operates in civil and infrastructure consulting, so your degree should directly tie to a technical discipline like civil engineering, urban planning, or a related field. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for consultant titles, so a clear degree-to-role connection is essential before you apply.
Research BKF's active project pipeline before applying
BKF Engineers staffs consultants across land development, transportation, and public infrastructure sectors. Tailor your resume to reflect experience in those service lines. Hiring managers are more likely to sponsor candidates whose background directly fills a gap in an active client engagement.
Target roles explicitly listed as open to sponsorship
Use Migrate Mate to filter Professional Services Consultant openings at BKF Engineers that are tied to visa sponsorship. Not every posting will be sponsorship-eligible, so targeting the right listings from the start saves time and avoids pursuing roles that won't move forward.
Understand the PERM labor certification timeline early
BKF Engineers has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 pathways for this role, both of which require DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS adjudicates the immigrant petition. PERM can take 12 to 18 months or longer, so aligning your job search timeline to that reality prevents surprises during offer negotiations.
Negotiate sponsorship commitment before accepting an offer
Get clarity in writing on which visa category BKF will file, whether they cover attorney fees, and at what point in your employment they initiate PERM. Verbal assurances during interviews rarely hold up once you're onboarded and asking HR to start the process.
Prepare a professional reference network before filing begins
EB-2 and EB-3 PERM cases often require documented recruitment efforts by the employer. Having professional references who can speak to your specialized consulting experience helps BKF Engineers demonstrate to DOL that qualified U.S. workers were considered, which supports a stronger labor certification record.

Does BKF Engineers sponsor H-1B visas for Professional Services Consultants?
BKF Engineers' documented sponsorship activity for Professional Services Consultants is concentrated in the EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways rather than H-1B. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to BKF is possible, but candidates seeking initial H-1B sponsorship should confirm directly with BKF's HR team before applying, as the firm's primary sponsorship pattern points toward permanent residence filings.
How do I apply for Professional Services Consultant jobs at BKF Engineers?
You can browse open Professional Services Consultant positions at BKF Engineers through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed visa sponsorship activity. Once you identify a relevant opening, apply directly through BKF's careers portal with a resume that reflects civil engineering, infrastructure, or land development consulting experience. Tailoring your application to BKF's specific project sectors significantly improves your chances of reaching an interview.
What visa types are commonly used for Professional Services Consultant roles at BKF Engineers?
BKF Engineers has pursued EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for this role. Both require DOL PERM labor certification followed by an I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS. EB-2 is typically used for roles requiring an advanced degree or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers positions requiring at least a bachelor's degree. The right category depends on the specific role requirements and your qualifications.
What qualifications does BKF Engineers expect for Professional Services Consultant roles?
BKF Engineers is a civil engineering and infrastructure firm, so Professional Services Consultant candidates are generally expected to hold a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering, urban planning, environmental science, or a closely related technical field. Project management experience, familiarity with California or western U.S. permitting environments, and client-facing consulting skills are common expectations based on the firm's service offerings.
How long does the sponsorship process typically take at BKF Engineers?
For EB-2 and EB-3 pathways, the process involves three sequential stages: DOL PERM labor certification, which currently takes 12 to 18 months or more; USCIS I-140 adjudication, which runs several months under standard processing; and visa number availability, which depends on your country of birth and the State Department's monthly priority date bulletin. Indian and Chinese nationals face significantly longer waits due to per-country backlogs.
