Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Software Engineer Jobs at Carrier Jobs
Align your resume to Carrier's engineering domains
Carrier's Software Engineer roles cluster around connected HVAC systems, predictive maintenance, and industrial IoT. Frame your experience in embedded software, cloud integration, or controls engineering rather than generic full-stack development to match their actual hiring needs.
Target roles before your OPT clock runs out
F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization, with a possible 24-month STEM extension. Carrier qualifies for STEM OPT, so starting your job search at least six months before your EAD expires gives you time to secure an offer and file extensions without a gap.
Prepare documentation that supports a specialty occupation case
Carrier's H-1B petitions for Software Engineers need to establish specialty occupation. Come prepared with transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is from outside the U.S., and documentation showing your degree field directly maps to the role's technical requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find Carrier's open Software Engineer roles
Carrier posts Software Engineer positions across multiple locations and business units, and sponsorship eligibility isn't always obvious from the listing. Migrate Mate filters specifically for visa-sponsoring employers, so you can browse Carrier's open roles knowing sponsorship is on the table.
Ask about H-1B cap timing during the offer stage
H-1B cap filings open in March for an October 1 start date. If Carrier extends an offer outside that window, clarify whether they'll file in the next cycle or bridge your status through OPT or TN while you wait. Getting this confirmed before signing avoids a six-month gap.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting any offer
Carrier must be enrolled in E-Verify to sponsor STEM OPT extensions, which USCIS requires for the employer to participate in the program. Verify this with HR during the offer stage, as enrollment status directly affects whether your extension paperwork can proceed.

Find Software Engineer at Carrier JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Carrier sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Carrier sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The company operates in a technically specialized space, including building automation, HVAC controls, and industrial IoT, which supports the specialty occupation standard required for H-1B approval. If you're currently on OPT or another status, discuss H-1B sponsorship timelines explicitly during the offer process, since cap filings follow a fixed annual cycle.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Carrier?
Apply directly through Carrier's careers portal. Search by engineering function and location, since roles are spread across business units including Carrier, Kidde, and Chubb. You can also browse Carrier's open Software Engineer positions on Migrate Mate, which filters for visa-sponsoring employers so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying.
Which visa types does Carrier commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Carrier sponsors H-1B visas for full-time Software Engineers, which is the most common pathway for long-term work authorization. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students and recent graduates, making it accessible earlier in your career. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles may also be eligible for TN status, which does not require USCIS lottery selection.
What qualifications does Carrier typically expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at Carrier require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, software engineering, or a related field. Roles in embedded systems or industrial controls often prioritize experience with C, C++, or real-time operating systems. Cloud or IoT experience is increasingly relevant given Carrier's investment in connected building and refrigeration platforms.
How do I plan my visa timeline when targeting a role at Carrier?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, expect Carrier to file during the March registration window for an October 1 start date. That gap can be bridged through F-1 OPT if you have remaining work authorization. For TN visa holders, status can be obtained at the border or port of entry without USCIS adjudication, which allows for faster start dates once an offer is in hand.
