Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Catholic Health System expects RN candidates to hold a valid New York State nursing license or a pending application. If your nursing degree is from outside the U.S., complete a credential evaluation through a CGFNS-recognized service before submitting any application.
Target units with recurring nursing shortages
Catholic Health System consistently posts openings in critical care, med-surg, and labor and delivery. Focusing your applications on high-turnover units increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager who has sponsored international candidates before.
Clarify sponsorship support during the offer stage
Once you receive an offer, confirm in writing whether the employer covers USCIS filing fees and attorney costs. For H-1B, the employer must pay the base filing fee. Avoid accepting an offer that shifts those costs to you.
Understand the TN pathway if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship
Registered Nurse is a qualifying TN occupation under USMCA. If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN status can be obtained at the port of entry without waiting for USCIS adjudication, making it a faster route than H-1B for eligible candidates.
Use Migrate Mate to track open RN roles
Catholic Health System posts RN openings across multiple facilities simultaneously, and listings move quickly. Search Migrate Mate to filter active roles by visa sponsorship type so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed for this employer.
Prepare for PERM timing if you're pursuing a Green Card
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires DOL PERM labor certification before USCIS filing, a process that can take a year or more. Raise your interest in permanent residency sponsorship early in negotiations so the employer can assess whether their legal team supports it.

Find Registered Nurse at Catholic Health System JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Catholic Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Registered Nurses?
Yes, Catholic Health System has sponsored H-1B visas for Registered Nurses. Healthcare employers in their category routinely use H-1B sponsorship to fill nursing vacancies, particularly in specialty units. The employer files the petition with USCIS and must pay the required filing fees. Your role is to secure the offer and confirm sponsorship is included before signing.
How do I apply for Registered Nurse jobs at Catholic Health System?
Applications for Registered Nurse roles are submitted through Catholic Health System's careers portal. You'll need an updated resume, valid or pending New York State RN licensure, and documentation of your nursing credentials. If you need visa sponsorship, state that clearly in early conversations with the recruiter so it can be confirmed before you advance through the interview process.
Which visa types does Catholic Health System commonly use for Registered Nurse roles?
Catholic Health System sponsors H-1B, EB-2, and EB-3 visas for Registered Nurses, and also accommodates F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN status. H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant route for RNs. TN is available for Canadian and Mexican citizens. EB-3 is the typical immigrant visa pathway for nurses pursuing permanent residency through employer sponsorship.
What qualifications does Catholic Health System expect for sponsored Registered Nurse positions?
You'll need a nursing degree from an accredited program, a valid or in-process New York State RN license, and passing NCLEX-RN scores. For internationally educated nurses, a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-recognized organization is typically required. Specialty unit roles, such as ICU or labor and delivery, may require additional certifications like BLS, ACLS, or relevant specialty credentials.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Registered Nurse role at Catholic Health System?
Timelines vary by visa type. H-1B standard processing with USCIS takes three to six months after filing, though premium processing reduces that to around 15 business days. EB-3 sponsorship involves DOL PERM labor certification, which adds a year or more before USCIS filing. TN for Canadian citizens can be processed at the border on the day of travel. Browse current openings on Migrate Mate to identify roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
