Align Your CPA Credentials Before Applying
CrossCountry Tax Professional roles typically require or expect CPA licensure or active candidacy. If your accounting credentials were earned outside the U.S., document their equivalency through a NASBA-recognized evaluation service before your first interview.
Target Roles Matching Your Visa Classification
CrossCountry sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT candidates, and the visa type affects which roles you can realistically pursue. TN applicants need to confirm the specific tax function qualifies under the accountant category before accepting an offer.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Tax Roles
CrossCountry posts Tax Professional openings across multiple practice areas and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at CrossCountry that are open to visa sponsorship, so you're not applying blind to listings that exclude international candidates.
Clarify OPT Timing With Recruiting Early
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window covers CrossCountry's typical onboarding timeline. USCIS requires OPT employment to begin within 90 days of your program start date, so late-stage offer delays can create compliance risk.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Narrative for H-1B Filing
For H-1B petitions in tax roles, USCIS scrutinizes whether the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Work with CrossCountry's immigration team to document how your tax specialization, not just general accounting, satisfies the specialty occupation standard.
Ask About PERM Timelines During Offer Negotiation
If you're pursuing a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask CrossCountry's HR team when PERM sponsorship becomes available for Tax Professional roles. DOL processing timelines run 12 to 18 months before USCIS adjudication even begins, so earlier clarity helps you plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CrossCountry Consulting sponsor H-1B visas for Tax Professionals?
Yes, CrossCountry Consulting sponsors H-1B visas for Tax Professional roles. Because these positions require specialized accounting and tax knowledge tied to a specific degree field, they generally meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard. You'll want to confirm sponsorship availability for the specific role and practice area you're applying to, as not every opening may be designated for sponsorship.
Which visa types does CrossCountry Consulting commonly use for Tax Professional roles?
CrossCountry Consulting sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for Tax Professional positions. E-3 visa is available exclusively to Australian citizens. TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. F-1 OPT candidates can start while their H-1B petition is pending, provided timing aligns.
What qualifications does CrossCountry Consulting expect for Tax Professional roles?
CrossCountry Tax Professional roles typically require a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with CPA licensure or active exam candidacy strongly preferred. Relevant experience in federal, state, or local tax compliance or advisory work strengthens your profile. Candidates with Big Four or regional firm backgrounds are common among CrossCountry's tax hires.
How do I apply for Tax Professional jobs at CrossCountry Consulting?
You can browse and apply for Tax Professional openings at CrossCountry Consulting through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles open to visa sponsorship so you're not sorting through listings that exclude international candidates. Apply directly once you've confirmed the role aligns with your visa type, then expect an initial recruiter screen followed by technical and behavioral interviews with the tax practice team.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a Tax Professional role at CrossCountry?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If CrossCountry extends an offer ahead of the registration window, you'll need to be registered in the lottery and selected before USCIS can adjudicate a cap-subject petition. F-1 OPT holders can often begin work before October 1 under cap-gap protection, which bridges the gap between OPT expiration and H-1B status activation.
