Align Your Resume to Cummins Engineering Domains
Cummins recruits Software Engineers for powertrain controls, telematics, and IoT platforms. Tailor your resume to highlight embedded C++, CAN bus protocols, or cloud-connected systems rather than generic full-stack experience, which maps better to their manufacturing software stack.
Clarify Sponsorship Eligibility Before Applying
Cummins sponsors multiple visa categories, but eligibility depends on your current status. Confirm whether your situation requires OPT extension, H-1B cap filing, or a TN petition before your first recruiter call so the conversation starts on firm ground.
Time Your Application Around H-1B Cap Deadlines
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. Factor that nine-month window into your job search timeline so an offer at Cummins can realistically convert into approved status.
Ask Specifically About Green Card Sponsorship Tracks
Cummins supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories for Software Engineers, but PERM labor certification timelines vary by role and location. Ask your recruiter which track applies to the specific position and whether the team has initiated PERM for similar hires.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Cummins posts Software Engineer openings across multiple locations with different sponsorship scopes. Use Migrate Mate to filter Cummins listings by the visa category that fits your situation, so you apply to positions where your status is already a known fit.
Verify Cummins's E-Verify Enrollment Before Accepting an Offer
Employers sponsoring F-1 OPT must be enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT extensions to be valid. Confirm Cummins's E-Verify status with HR during the offer stage, not after you've signed, to protect your ability to work through the full OPT period.

Find Software Engineer at Cummins JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cummins sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Cummins sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineer roles. The company has an established process for filing H-1B petitions on behalf of technical hires, including both cap-subject registrations for new candidates and transfers for engineers already holding H-1B status with another employer. Confirm the specific role's sponsorship eligibility with the recruiting team during the interview process.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Cummins?
You can apply directly through Cummins's careers site or browse their open Software Engineer positions on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can target listings that match your immigration status. Prepare to address your visa situation early in the recruiter screening call, as Cummins's HR team will need to confirm sponsorship feasibility before advancing your application.
Which visa types does Cummins commonly use for Software Engineer hires?
Cummins sponsors H-1B, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT visas for Software Engineers, along with immigrant visa categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term hires. TN visas apply only to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and the specific position's classification under DOL occupational definitions.
What qualifications does Cummins expect for sponsored Software Engineer roles?
Cummins generally looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B eligibility. Practical experience in embedded software, systems integration, or connected vehicle platforms strengthens your application for manufacturing-focused roles. Candidates with exposure to automotive or industrial software environments tend to align well with their engineering teams.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Cummins as a Software Engineer?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B cap cases require USCIS registration in March with a start date no earlier than October 1, making the process six to nine months from offer to work authorization. TN visas for Canadian nationals can be processed at the border in a single day. F-1 OPT extensions require a STEM OPT application filed at least 90 days before OPT expiration and depend on Cummins maintaining active E-Verify enrollment.
