Align your degree to CDM Smith's technical roles
CDM Smith's E-3 filings concentrate in civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering. Your degree field must directly match the role's specialty occupation classification, so verify alignment using O*NET before you apply.
Target project-heavy offices in growth regions
CDM Smith staffs up around large infrastructure contracts. Research which regional offices are actively bidding or executing major projects, because those teams are most likely to have open headcount and willingness to sponsor.
Confirm your wage offer clears the prevailing wage
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search against your specific role and city before accepting an offer, not after, to avoid renegotiations at the LCA stage.
Get your credentials evaluated before your first interview
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees require a credential evaluation to confirm U.S. equivalency for specialty occupation purposes. Submit your evaluation request early, as turnaround from accredited evaluators can add two to four weeks to your timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to file once you have your offer letter
Once CDM Smith extends a formal offer, you can file your E-3 application yourself through Migrate Mate, which handles the LCA and DS-160 preparation at a flat fee and typically files within one business day.
Clarify the LCA timeline with your CDM Smith recruiter
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consular appointment. Ask your recruiter explicitly when they plan to file the LCA so you can schedule your visa interview at the right time and avoid unnecessary delays.
CDM Smith E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does CDM Smith sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, CDM Smith sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. The firm's engineering and environmental consulting work regularly produces positions that meet the E-3 specialty occupation standard, particularly in civil, structural, and environmental disciplines. Sponsorship decisions are made at the hiring manager level, so confirm willingness early in the process.
Which roles and departments at CDM Smith typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at CDM Smith tends to align with its core technical practices: civil and transportation engineering, environmental remediation, water resources, and geotechnical services. Project management roles tied to these disciplines can also qualify if the position requires a directly related degree. Roles in business development or general administration are unlikely to meet the specialty occupation threshold.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at CDM Smith?
After CDM Smith extends a written offer, the firm files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which typically certifies within seven business days. You then complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and attend a consular interview in Australia. Migrate Mate can prepare and file your LCA and DS-160 documentation if CDM Smith delegates that step to you.
How long does the E-3 sponsorship process take at CDM Smith?
From signed offer letter to visa stamp, most straightforward E-3 cases resolve in three to six weeks. The LCA certification stage usually takes under two weeks, and consular appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth determines the rest of the timeline. Peak periods and administrative processing can extend this window, so build buffer into your start date negotiation.
What practical steps should I take before applying to CDM Smith for an E-3 role?
Confirm your Australian degree covers the specific engineering or science discipline the role requires, not just a related field. Get a credential evaluation ready if your degree is a three-year program. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your target role and city so you enter salary discussions knowing the prevailing wage floor. These steps prevent delays once CDM Smith is ready to file your LCA.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at CDM Smith?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
