Target roles with degree-specific requirements
Google's E-3 petitions succeed when the job description explicitly requires a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Software engineering and data science roles typically satisfy this requirement. Avoid applying to generalist program manager roles where any degree may be accepted, as these can trigger specialty occupation challenges.
Align your degree to the role title
Google's immigration team will scrutinize whether your Australian degree field matches the role's SOC code. Cross-reference your occupation against O*NET to confirm the standard education requirement before applying, especially for hybrid roles that blend engineering with business functions.
Confirm E-3 eligibility during recruiter screening
Raise your E-3 status in the first recruiter call, not after the offer stage. Google's recruiting coordinators are familiar with E-3, but flagging it early ensures the right immigration team gets looped in before headcount approvals and timelines are set.
Verify your prevailing wage position early
Google sets compensation bands that typically meet or exceed DOL prevailing wage levels, but your specific level and location determine compliance. Run your target role and Google's office location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating, so you can assess whether the offered band meets the DOL wage tier for your occupation.
Use Migrate Mate to prepare your filing documents
Once Google's immigration team certifies the LCA with DOL, your consular application still requires a properly assembled DS-160, support letter, and visa packet. Migrate Mate assigns a dedicated E-3 expert to handle your filing at a flat fee, keeping your timeline on track after the employer side is complete.
Plan your consular appointment around Google's start date
Google offers are typically tied to a specific start date cohort. E-3 consular processing in Sydney or Melbourne usually takes two to four weeks, but you'll need to schedule your appointment proactively. Build backward from your intended start date to avoid a gap that requires renegotiating your offer terms.
Google E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Google sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Google has an established immigration infrastructure and works with experienced immigration counsel to handle LCA filings and petitioner documentation. Roles in software engineering, data science, and technical program management are among those regularly supported for E-3 sponsorship.
Which teams and roles at Google typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Google is most common in technical roles where the position requires a specific bachelor's degree field, such as software engineering, machine learning, cloud infrastructure, and quantitative research. Product management roles can qualify, but specialty occupation approval is less consistent for generalist PM positions. Your offer letter's stated degree requirement is the key factor USCIS will evaluate.
How do I start the E-3 application process at Google?
Google's immigration team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL after your offer is accepted and headcount is confirmed. Once the LCA is certified, you complete the DS-160, pay the MRV fee, and schedule your consular interview in Australia. Google provides a support letter and LCA documentation for your interview. Migrate Mate can help you prepare and organize your consular packet independently of Google's counsel.
How long does the E-3 process take at Google?
LCA certification with DOL typically takes seven business days. Consular appointment availability in Sydney and Melbourne varies by season, but most applicants can schedule an interview within two to four weeks. Passport return after the interview generally takes two to five business days. Total elapsed time from offer acceptance to visa in hand is typically four to six weeks for straightforward cases.
How do I strengthen my E-3 application for a Google role?
Confirm your Australian degree field maps directly to the role's SOC code before accepting the offer. Verify the offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and Google's office location using the OFLC Wage Search. Prepare clear documentation of your degree and any transcripts that show your field of study, as consular officers assess the degree-to-role nexus during the interview.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Google?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
