Align your degree to HP's specialty occupation roles
HP's E-3 filings concentrate in engineering and software disciplines. Cross-reference your degree field against the O*NET occupation profile for your target role to confirm the specialty occupation requirement is met before applying.
Target HP's enterprise and R&D divisions specifically
HP's hardware engineering, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise solutions teams are the most likely sources of E-3-eligible roles. Filter your job search to these divisions rather than applying broadly across corporate functions.
Request the LCA before your start date is set
HP's HR team must file the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa appointment. Build at least three weeks of LCA processing time into your timeline so a delayed certification doesn't push back your consulate date.
Verify your salary meets DOL prevailing wage for your location
HP operates across high-cost metros like San Jose, Austin, and Houston. Use the OFLC Wage Search to confirm your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your SOC code and work location before your interview.
Use Migrate Mate to prepare your E-3 filing documents
Once HP extends an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service compiles your DS-160, support letter, and LCA documentation and files within one business day, so you're not waiting on internal legal teams to move first.
Clarify HP's internal sponsorship approval chain early
Large electronics companies like HP often require hiring manager sign-off plus a separate HR immigration team approval before sponsorship is confirmed. Ask your recruiter which internal teams need to greenlight the E-3 before you accept an offer.
HP E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does HP sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, HP sponsors E-3 visas for qualifying Australian nationals in specialty occupation roles, primarily in engineering, software development, and technical product teams. Sponsorship is role-dependent, and not every position qualifies. Your job offer must be for a role that requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field under USCIS guidelines.
Which roles and departments at HP typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
HP's E-3 sponsorship tends to concentrate in hardware engineering, software engineering, cloud and enterprise solutions, and research and development. Corporate functions like marketing, sales, and general management are less likely to qualify because the specialty occupation requirement is harder to establish for roles where any degree field is acceptable.
How do I start the E-3 application process after receiving an offer from HP?
Once HP extends a written offer, their HR immigration team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160 online and schedule your consulate interview in Australia. Migrate Mate can manage the filing package on your behalf if HP's internal legal team isn't moving quickly enough for your timeline.
How long does the E-3 sponsorship process take at HP?
The DOL certifies the LCA within seven business days in most cases. Consulate appointment wait times in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth vary by season but typically run two to six weeks. End-to-end from offer to visa stamp, most applicants complete the process within four to eight weeks, assuming documents are complete at submission.
How do I confirm my HP role qualifies as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Check the O*NET profile for your job title to confirm it falls in Job Zone 4 or 5, which requires at least a four-year degree in a specific field. Cross-reference HP's job description language to ensure it states the degree as a requirement, not a preference. USCIS will use the LCA and job description to assess whether the role qualifies.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at HP?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
