Align your degree to the role
K L Gates E-3 applications require your degree to directly support the specialty occupation claim. A law degree or closely related field is typically expected. Roles where any bachelor's degree suffices won't qualify, so confirm the job description specifies a field-specific requirement before applying.
Research which practice groups hire
E-3 sponsorship at K L Gates tends to concentrate in transactional, litigation, and regulatory practice groups rather than administrative functions. Target open roles in those departments specifically, and tailor your application to demonstrate subject-matter depth in the relevant practice area.
Verify your prevailing wage before negotiating
K L Gates must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and office location. Use the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions so you understand the wage floor for your specific job title and city.
Check your occupation code on O*NET
Your E-3 specialty occupation claim is stronger when your role maps to a Job Zone 4 or 5 occupation on O*NET. Look up the occupation profile for your exact role before your interview so you can speak to why a specific degree is required, not just preferred.
Confirm the LCA timeline with your hiring contact
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. At a firm like K L Gates, the LCA is typically handled by in-house immigration counsel, but confirm internally how long certification takes so you don't schedule your visa interview too early.
Use Migrate Mate to track K L Gates filings
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review K L Gates's E-3 filing history by role and office location. Seeing which positions the firm has sponsored gives you a realistic picture of where E-3 hires actually land and which practice groups have the most active sponsorship track record.
K&L GATES E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does K L Gates sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, K L Gates sponsors E-3 visas for qualifying Australian professionals. Sponsorship is most common in attorney and legal specialist roles where a specific degree is required. The firm handles immigration filings through in-house or retained immigration counsel, so the process is typically structured once an offer is extended.
Which roles and departments at K L Gates typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at K L Gates is most common in substantive legal roles such as associates, counsel, and specialist positions within transactional, litigation, and regulatory practice groups. Administrative or generalist roles that don't require a specific degree field are less likely to qualify as specialty occupations under E-3 requirements.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at K L Gates?
Once you receive an offer, K L Gates's immigration team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you attend a consulate interview in Australia with your LCA, a support letter from K L Gates, and your credentials. USCIS is not involved since E-3 visas are issued directly at the consulate.
How long does the E-3 process take at K L Gates?
The LCA certification typically takes seven business days. Consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth then determines your overall timeline, which can range from a few weeks to longer during peak periods. Building in at least four to six weeks from offer to visa stamp is a reasonable planning window.
How do I find open E-3 roles at K L Gates?
Start by searching K L Gates's careers page for roles in practice areas where E-3 sponsorship is common. Migrate Mate also lets you review K L Gates's E-3 filing history by role and location, which helps you identify which positions have actually been sponsored and target your applications accordingly.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at K L Gates?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
