Please note that this is a contract role providing services to Microsoft through external staffing partners of Allegis Global Solutions. If you are selected for this role, you will be employed by AGS and will not be an employee of Microsoft.
Summary
Are you a creative, systems-minded professional who thrives at the intersection of writing, logic, and experimentation? This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI-driven content generation within a dynamic gaming studio environment. You will be responsible for designing and refining prompts that power generative content systems, transforming ambiguous ideas into structured, scalable workflows that consistently deliver accurate and engaging results. Operating as a mid-level individual contributor, you will work independently while collaborating with stakeholders to push the boundaries of what AI-generated content can achieve. This is not a traditional writing or engineering role — it is a hybrid discipline that blends creative writing, product thinking, and system design into one exciting and impactful position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, write, and iterate on prompts that generate structured, high-quality content
- Build and maintain prompt frameworks that scale across topics and formats
- Test outputs, identify failure patterns, and systematically improve results
- Define rules, constraints, and schemas, including JSON outputs, to enforce consistency
- Evaluate content quality across accuracy, engagement, and repeatability
- Develop new content formats and expand existing ones
- Collaborate on tooling using structured workflows and generative AI platforms
- Rapidly prototype, validate, and refine ideas through hands-on experimentation
- Run small experiments to test variations, compare results, and scale what works
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define new content types and continuously improve generation quality
Requirements
- 2 or more years of prompt design and iteration experience for generative AI systems, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 2 or more years of experience with structured content and data handling, including JSON, schemas, and rule-based systems
- 2 or more years of analytical problem-solving experience, including testing outputs, identifying failure patterns, and improving systems
- Experience with agentic systems or skill-based AI systems is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal oversight
- Strong writing ability with an eye for clarity, tone, and engagement
- Systems thinking with the ability to translate vague goals into structured rules and repeatable outputs
- Experience iterating on AI prompts or working with generative models
- Comfort working with structured data, including JSON, schemas, and validation rules
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug outputs and identify failure patterns
- Bias toward action with a test, ship, and improve mindset
- Experience building or scaling content generation systems is a plus
- Familiarity with prompt evaluation, scoring, or test harnesses is a plus
- Background in games, education, or interactive content is a plus
- Light scripting or data manipulation experience is a plus

Align your degree field exactly
Microsoft's E-3 roles require a direct match between your degree and the job function. A computer science or software engineering degree covers most technical roles, but product management positions often demand business or engineering credentials. Check O*NET for the accepted degree fields before applying.
Target teams with recurring E-3 history
Microsoft's Azure, M365, and AI platform divisions hire internationally with regularity. Prioritize job listings from these business groups, as their hiring managers are more familiar with E-3 timelines and less likely to withdraw an offer over visa logistics.
Confirm LCA certification before your consulate date
Microsoft's immigration team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa interview. The certified LCA must accompany your DS-160 application packet. Confirm your recruiter has submitted it and that you have the certified copy in hand, not just a receipt.
Use Migrate Mate to verify Microsoft's E-3 filing patterns
Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer and role, so you can see which Microsoft job titles have received E-3 certification. Use that data to prioritize roles where Microsoft has an established E-3 track record before you apply.
Negotiate your start date around consulate wait times
Australian consulates in Sydney and Melbourne can have appointment gaps that stretch several weeks. When accepting a Microsoft offer, build that buffer into your proposed start date so your employment agreement doesn't conflict with your visa timeline.
Prepare for specialty occupation documentation requests
Microsoft roles in program management and sales engineering occasionally receive requests from USCIS for additional evidence that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Having your job description, reporting structure, and degree transcripts organized before the offer stage speeds up the process if this happens.
Microsoft E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors E-3 visas for Australian citizens in qualifying specialty occupation roles. The company has an established immigration support program and regularly files Labor Condition Applications with DOL for roles across software engineering, cloud infrastructure, data science, and product management. Sponsorship is confirmed during the offer stage, not guaranteed at application.
Which Microsoft roles and departments typically receive E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Microsoft is most common in technical roles requiring a directly related bachelor's degree. Software engineering, data and applied science, cloud solutions architecture, and certain product management positions are the most frequently sponsored. Corporate and sales roles may qualify but face higher scrutiny on the specialty occupation requirement under USCIS guidelines.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process at Microsoft?
Once Microsoft extends an offer, their immigration team initiates the Labor Condition Application with DOL. After LCA certification, you complete the DS-160 online and schedule your consulate interview in Australia. Microsoft typically provides an immigration contact or outside counsel to coordinate documentation. You attend the interview independently and receive your visa stamp directly from the consulate.
How do I estimate the E-3 timeline when starting at Microsoft?
DOL certifies the LCA within seven business days in most cases. Consulate appointment availability in Sydney or Melbourne then determines the real timeline, which can range from two to eight weeks depending on demand. Factor in passport return time after your interview, typically two to five business days, before committing to a firm Microsoft start date.
How do I find E-3 jobs at Microsoft as an Australian applicant?
Search Microsoft's careers portal and filter by location in the United States, then cross-reference open roles with the E-3 filing history available through Migrate Mate. Migrate Mate pulls DOL Labor Condition Application data so you can identify which Microsoft job titles have previously qualified for E-3 certification, helping you focus on roles with a documented sponsorship track record.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Microsoft?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
