Align Your Credentials to Specialty Occupation Standards
H-1B eligibility requires your degree to directly relate to the Business Development role. For financial services firms like Fitch, degrees in finance, economics, or business administration carry the strongest case. A marketing or unrelated degree may face additional scrutiny.
Research Fitch's LCA Filings Before Applying
DOL Labor Condition Application records are public and show which job titles Fitch has previously sponsored. Searching OFLC disclosure data for Fitch Ratings confirms whether your specific Business Development title has an approval history.
Target Open Roles Across Fitch's Business Lines
Fitch staffs Business Development across ratings, research, and data products. Roles tied to institutional clients or issuer relations tend to have clearer specialty occupation arguments. Browse open positions through Migrate Mate to filter specifically for visa-sponsored openings at Fitch.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope Early in Recruiter Conversations
Fitch sponsors multiple visa categories including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Ask the recruiter directly which categories apply to the role and whether they support both cap-subject and cap-exempt filings, so you're not caught off guard after an offer is extended.
Prepare for PERM If Pursuing Long-Term Sponsorship
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires PERM labor certification through DOL before Fitch can file an I-140 petition. Business Development roles must be structured to demonstrate that no qualified U.S. worker was available, so document your specialized financial services experience thoroughly.

Does Fitch Ratings sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The role must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as finance, economics, or business administration. Fitch has filed H-1B petitions across its ratings, research, and data divisions, making Business Development one of the functions where sponsorship is available for qualified candidates.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Fitch Ratings?
You can apply directly through Fitch Ratings' careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters Business Development openings at Fitch by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight client-facing financial services experience and any relevant coverage of institutional or corporate clients. Fitch's recruitment process typically includes multiple interview rounds covering both technical financial knowledge and commercial acumen.
Which visa types does Fitch Ratings commonly use for Business Development roles?
Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3 for Business Development positions. Australian citizens may be well-positioned to pursue the E-3 visa, which has no lottery and offers a faster path. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles may be eligible for TN status, which can be obtained at the border without advance USCIS filing.
What qualifications does Fitch Ratings look for in Business Development candidates?
Fitch typically looks for candidates with a background in finance, economics, or a related field, along with experience in client relationship management within financial services. Familiarity with credit ratings, fixed income markets, or structured finance products is a strong differentiator. For senior roles, a track record of managing institutional client relationships at asset managers, banks, or corporate treasury departments is commonly expected.
How do visa sponsorship timelines affect the hiring process at Fitch Ratings?
Timeline depends on your current status and visa category. H-1B cap-subject candidates must be registered in the March lottery for an October 1 start, meaning offers extended in spring may not translate to a start date for months. E-3 and TN candidates can often move faster since those visas don't require USCIS lottery selection. If you're on OPT, confirm your expiration date against Fitch's expected start date to identify whether a cap-gap extension applies.
