Align Your Credentials With GAAP Standards
Fitch evaluates Project Accountants on U.S. GAAP proficiency and fund accounting exposure. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation that explicitly maps your qualifications to a U.S. equivalent before applying.
Target Fitch's Structured Finance Accounting Teams
Fitch staffs Project Accountants across structured finance, corporate ratings, and research divisions. Applications tied to structured finance or asset management accounting are more likely to align with active headcount needs and sponsorship-approved roles.
Clarify OPT or CPT Eligibility Before Your First Interview
If you're on F-1 status, confirm whether the role qualifies as directly related to your field of study before the offer stage. Fitch's finance roles typically satisfy this, but mismatches in job title or department can create OPT authorization issues at USCIS.
Understand the LCA Filing Requirement for H-1B Roles
Before Fitch can file your H-1B petition, DOL must certify a Labor Condition Application confirming the offered wage meets the prevailing rate for Project Accountants in your work location. This step adds time between offer acceptance and petition submission.
Ask Directly About Internal Sponsorship Approval Processes
At firms like Fitch, individual hiring managers don't authorize sponsorship unilaterally. HR and legal teams must approve it separately. Ask during the offer stage whether the role has already cleared internal sponsorship review to avoid late-stage surprises.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsorship Roles
Not every Project Accountant listing at Fitch specifies sponsorship availability upfront. Use Migrate Mate to browse open roles at Fitch filtered by visa type, so you're only targeting positions where sponsorship has been confirmed for your visa category.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fitch Ratings sponsor H-1B visas for Project Accountants?
Yes, Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B visas for Project Accountants. Fitch operates as a large employer in the financial services sector, which means it follows standard H-1B cap-subject processes and works with immigration counsel to file petitions. Sponsorship is typically confirmed after an offer is extended and approved through Fitch's internal HR and legal review process.
How do I apply for Project Accountant jobs at Fitch Ratings?
Applications go through Fitch's careers portal directly. Tailor your resume to highlight fund accounting, financial reporting, or structured finance experience relevant to the specific team. If you need visa sponsorship, mention it early in recruiter conversations rather than waiting until the offer stage. You can also browse open Project Accountant roles at Fitch on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by sponsorship eligibility.
Which visa types does Fitch Ratings commonly use for Project Accountant roles?
Fitch sponsors several visa categories for accounting roles, including H-1B, E-3 visa (for Australian citizens), and TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying accounting occupations). F-1 candidates on OPT or CPT can also work at Fitch while sponsorship is arranged. Permanent residency pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM are available for longer-term employees.
What qualifications does Fitch Ratings expect for Project Accountant positions?
Fitch typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, along with practical experience in financial reporting or project-based accounting. CPA certification or progress toward it is valued. Exposure to structured finance, investment accounting, or credit-related reporting strengthens your profile for Fitch specifically compared to general corporate accounting backgrounds.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Project Accountant at Fitch?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B cap-subject petitions are tied to the annual April lottery, meaning you may wait up to a year before your status becomes active on October 1. E-3 and TN visas move faster, often processable within weeks of an offer. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes two to four years from filing, depending on your country of birth and DOL processing times.
