Align your credentials with U.S. accounting standards
Fitch operates under U.S. GAAP and expects bookkeepers to demonstrate hands-on experience with reconciliations, general ledger management, and financial close processes. If your credentials are from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying.
Target Fitch's finance and operations hiring cycles
Fitch's bookkeeper openings tend to cluster around fiscal planning periods. Set up job alerts for their finance operations and corporate services teams specifically, since bookkeeper roles often sit outside the more visible front-office hiring pipelines.
Browse open Bookkeeper roles on Migrate Mate
Sponsorship history varies significantly by role and department, even within the same company. Use Migrate Mate to filter Fitch Ratings bookkeeper listings by visa type so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is actually on the table.
Clarify sponsorship scope before the final interview
Fitch sponsors multiple visa categories including H-1B, E-3, and TN, but not every hiring manager knows which apply to your situation. Ask the recruiter early whether the role has been approved for the specific visa type you need, not just whether the company sponsors generally.
Understand how OPT and CPT bridge into long-term sponsorship
If you're on F-1 OPT or CPT, Fitch can bring you on while a longer-term petition is prepared. USCIS OPT periods give you up to 12 months of work authorization, with a 24-month STEM extension if your degree qualifies, buying time for an H-1B filing.
Prepare your PERM documentation early for permanent residency
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, DOL's PERM labor certification process requires Fitch to conduct a formal recruitment test. Start gathering your education and experience documentation before this stage begins so there are no delays once the employer initiates the filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fitch Ratings sponsor H-1B visas for Bookkeepers?
Yes, Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B visas for bookkeeper roles. Bookkeeping positions at a financial services firm of Fitch's complexity can qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria, particularly when the role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Confirming the specific role's eligibility with the recruiter before accepting an offer is the right move.
Which visa types are commonly used for Bookkeeper roles at Fitch Ratings?
Fitch sponsors several visa categories for finance and accounting roles, including H-1B, E-3 visa for Australian citizens, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA, and F-1 OPT and CPT for current students or recent graduates. Longer-term permanent residency pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 are also available once you've established yourself in the role.
What qualifications does Fitch Ratings expect for Bookkeeper positions?
Fitch typically looks for a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, solid experience with general ledger systems, and familiarity with financial close processes. Experience in investment management, asset management, or financial services environments carries real weight since Fitch's bookkeeping work feeds directly into credit rating and research operations. Proficiency with ERP platforms is commonly expected.
How do I apply for Bookkeeper jobs at Fitch Ratings?
Applications go through Fitch's careers portal, where you can filter by function and location. Before applying, use Migrate Mate to identify which open bookkeeper roles at Fitch include visa sponsorship, so you're not investing time in applications where sponsorship isn't available. Tailor your resume to emphasize financial services accounting experience and any U.S. GAAP exposure.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving an offer from Fitch Ratings?
The timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B filings for cap-subject workers follow an April 1 start date, meaning offers need to align with that cycle or use cap-exempt pathways. E-3 and TN visas move faster and can be processed at a U.S. consulate without waiting for an annual cap window. Work with Fitch's immigration counsel as soon as an offer is extended to avoid gaps in work authorization.
