Align your credentials to Fitch's rating methodology
Fitch evaluates business development candidates on their command of credit analysis and structured finance concepts. Document any CFA, CPA, or relevant postgraduate qualifications before applying, since specialty occupation petitions for director-level roles often hinge on credential specificity.
Target Fitch's institutional and sovereign coverage teams
Fitch's business development function is organized around sector verticals like insurance, structured finance, and public finance. Roles tied to these coverage areas have clearer specialty occupation framing under H-1B standards, so tailor your application to a specific vertical rather than applying broadly.
Understand how F-1 OPT bridges your timeline
If you're finishing a finance or business degree on F-1 status, your 12-month OPT window can cover your first year at Fitch while an H-1B petition clears. STEM OPT extensions apply if your degree qualifies, giving up to 36 months of continuous authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Fitch's open roles by visa type
Fitch posts business development director openings across multiple locations with varying sponsorship terms. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at Fitch that match your visa category, so you're only engaging with positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Request LCA details before negotiating your offer
Before finalizing compensation, ask Fitch's HR team for the prevailing wage level on your Labor Condition Application. The DOL's wage determinations for director-level financial roles can differ significantly by metro area, and knowing the LCA wage level protects you from accepting below the certified floor.

Find Business Development Director at Fitch Ratings JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Fitch Ratings sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development Directors?
Yes, Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development Director roles. These positions typically qualify as specialty occupations because they require a specific background in finance, credit markets, or a related analytical field. Sponsorship is handled through Fitch's in-house immigration function, and the process follows standard USCIS petition timelines, including the annual April registration window for cap-subject cases.
How do I apply for Business Development Director jobs at Fitch Ratings?
Applications go through Fitch Ratings' careers portal, where roles are listed by region and business unit. You can also find Fitch's open Business Development Director positions filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it straightforward to identify which roles are open to international candidates. Tailoring your application to a specific coverage vertical, such as structured finance or insurance ratings, strengthens your candidacy.
Which visa types does Fitch Ratings commonly use for Business Development Director roles?
Fitch Ratings sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for this function. H-1B is the most common route for non-Australian, non-Canadian candidates. Australian citizens frequently use the E-3 visa, which carries no lottery and allows two-year renewable status, making it a practical option for director-level hires.
What qualifications does Fitch Ratings expect for Business Development Director candidates?
Fitch typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field, with substantial client-facing experience in financial services or credit markets. At the director level, familiarity with Fitch's ratings products across sectors like structured finance, corporates, or public finance gives candidates a clear advantage. Professional designations such as the CFA can support both your application and any specialty occupation determination for visa purposes.
How do I plan my timeline if Fitch Ratings is sponsoring my H-1B?
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be registered in March for an October 1 start date, so your offer timing matters significantly. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can begin work before your H-1B takes effect as long as your OPT authorization covers the gap. Premium processing through USCIS is available and reduces adjudication to roughly 15 business days, which Fitch's HR team can advise on during the offer stage.
