Job Roles at Brown University
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Brown University Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target faculty and research roles first
Brown University's Green Card sponsorship is most common in academic and research positions, where specialized expertise justifies the investment. Focus your search on faculty appointments, postdoctoral roles, and senior research staff openings in your field.
Raise sponsorship early in the hiring process
Universities manage sponsorship through HR and legal teams with long planning cycles. Ask directly whether the department has budget and precedent for Green Card sponsorship before investing heavily in an application, not after you receive an offer.
Use verified sponsorship data to find open roles
Not every Brown University job listing signals Green Card support. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus on departments with an established track record of filing.
Align with departments that have ongoing hiring needs
Departments with chronic talent shortages in specialized fields, such as engineering, public health, or computer science, have stronger institutional incentives to sponsor Green Cards. Targeting those areas improves your chances of finding a willing sponsor at Brown.

Does Brown University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Brown University sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees. Sponsorship is most common for faculty, senior researchers, and professional staff in roles requiring specialized skills. The university typically files under EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based categories, and decisions are made at the department level in coordination with Brown's international employees office.
Which roles and departments at Brown University typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Brown is concentrated in academic and research functions, including tenure-track and research faculty, postdoctoral researchers transitioning to staff roles, and specialized administrative professionals. Departments in STEM fields, public health, and social sciences tend to sponsor more frequently due to competitive hiring demands and long-term retention needs.
How do I start the Green Card process at Brown University?
The process begins with your department and Brown's Office of International Student and Scholar Services or HR, depending on your role. Your employer initiates the PERM labor certification with the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS. You cannot self-petition through this route, so employer commitment is required before anything moves forward.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at Brown University?
For most employment-based Green Card cases, the timeline runs from one to several years depending on your country of birth, visa category, and USCIS processing speeds. PERM certification alone can take several months. Nationals from India and China typically face significantly longer waits due to visa backlogs. Starting early in your employment is strongly advisable.
How do I find Green Card-sponsoring jobs at Brown University?
Brown University posts openings through its careers portal, but listings rarely specify Green Card sponsorship explicitly. Migrate Mate aggregates roles from verified sponsors and lets you filter by company and visa type, making it easier to identify active openings at Brown without sorting through listings that may not support permanent residence sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Brown University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
