Job Roles at George Mason University
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in George Mason University Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target faculty and research roles first
George Mason University's Green Card sponsorship is concentrated in tenure-track faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and specialized research staff. These roles align most directly with EB-1B and EB-2 pathways, where universities have established sponsorship infrastructure and institutional incentive to retain talent.
Understand the university's PERM process
Most non-faculty professional roles at George Mason go through the PERM labor certification process before Green Card filing. Ask HR early whether your position has been evaluated for PERM eligibility, as recruitment documentation requirements must be met from the start of hiring.
Build your case during the H-1B or TN phase
Green Card sponsorship at universities typically follows a period on a nonimmigrant visa like the H-1B. Use that time to document publications, grants, and institutional contributions that strengthen an EB-1B or EB-2 NIW petition if that pathway becomes available.
Engage the Office of Human Resources early
George Mason's HR and international employee services teams manage Green Card filings. Initiating that conversation before your nonimmigrant status runs short gives the university time to evaluate sponsorship options and begin the often lengthy PERM or preference petition process.
Filter for verified Green Card sponsors when job searching
Not every university role leads to Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, helping you focus your applications on George Mason positions where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than an assumption.
Know which Green Card category fits your role
George Mason University typically files under EB-2 for advanced degree professionals and EB-1B for outstanding researchers. Faculty with national recognition may qualify for EB-1B, which bypasses PERM entirely. Clarifying your category early helps set realistic timeline expectations with the university.

Does George Mason University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, George Mason University sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, particularly in faculty, research, and specialized professional roles. Sponsorship is not automatic and typically follows a period of employment on a nonimmigrant visa such as the H-1B. The university's HR team evaluates each case based on the role, department budget, and the employee's immigration history.
Which roles and departments at George Mason University are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Tenure-track and tenured faculty positions are the most common recipients of Green Card sponsorship at George Mason University. Research-intensive departments in STEM, social sciences, and public policy also sponsor postdoctoral researchers and senior research staff. Administrative and professional roles outside core academic functions are sponsored less frequently and typically only after demonstrating long-term retention value.
How do I start the Green Card process at George Mason University?
The process begins by working with George Mason's Office of Human Resources and its designated immigration counsel. Most cases start with a determination of the appropriate Green Card category, either PERM-based EB-2 or EB-3 for professional staff, or EB-1B for qualifying researchers. You'll need to provide documentation of your qualifications, and for PERM cases, the university must complete a formal recruitment process before filing.
How long does the Green Card process take at George Mason University?
Timelines depend heavily on the Green Card category and your country of birth. EB-1B petitions, which bypass PERM, move faster, often resolving within one to two years for applicants without a visa backlog. PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 cases take longer due to the labor certification stage and, for nationals of India and China, visa priority date backlogs that can extend the process significantly.
How do I find open jobs at George Mason University that include Green Card sponsorship?
George Mason University posts positions on its own careers portal, but sponsorship eligibility isn't always disclosed upfront. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for employers with verified Green Card sponsorship history, so you can identify George Mason roles where sponsorship is a realistic outcome rather than guessing from the job listing alone. Confirming sponsorship intent during early interviews is still essential.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at George Mason University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
