Match your credentials to EB pathway requirements
EB-3 covers most registered nursing and allied health roles, while EB-2 applies to advanced-practice clinicians and roles requiring a master's degree. Physicians with exceptional records may qualify for EB-1B. Identifying your pathway before you apply shapes which positions to prioritize at Novant Health.
Prepare for PERM labor certification delays
Novant Health's Green Card process for most clinical staff runs through PERM, DOL's labor certification program. Recruitment advertising and audit risk can push timelines past 18 months. Request the employer's standard PERM timeline in writing before accepting an offer so you can plan your status continuity.
Verify your occupation's prevailing wage tier
Before negotiating your offer, run your job title and Novant Health's metro area through the OFLC Wage Search. PERM requires the offered wage to meet the prevailing wage level. Knowing your wage tier in advance prevents surprises that could delay or derail your labor certification filing.
Target units with documented sponsorship history
Novant Health's sponsorship activity is concentrated in acute care nursing, pharmacy, radiology, and hospitalist medicine. Applying directly to these departments, rather than general openings, puts you in front of hiring managers already familiar with the Green Card process and more likely to support a long-term sponsorship commitment.
Secure priority date protection early in your offer
Use Migrate Mate to map out your Green Card timeline from offer to permanent residence. Getting your I-140 petition approved quickly after hire locks in your priority date, which matters significantly if your birth country faces EB-3 or EB-2 backlogs under the State Department Visa Bulletin.
Align your licensing timeline with sponsorship requirements
Novant Health requires active state licensure before most clinical Green Card sponsorships begin. For internationally trained nurses, completing NCLEX and obtaining a North Carolina license before your start date removes a common bottleneck that causes employers to delay or withdraw sponsorship commitments during the PERM filing window.
Novant Health Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Novant Health sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Novant Health sponsors Green Cards for qualifying clinical and technical staff, including registered nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and allied health professionals. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a period of employment and is most common in patient-facing roles across its hospital and medical group network. Not every position qualifies, so confirm sponsorship intent during the offer stage.
Which roles and departments at Novant Health are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Acute care nursing, hospital medicine, radiology, pharmacy, and laboratory sciences are the departments where Green Card sponsorship is most consistently offered. Advanced-practice roles such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants are also frequently sponsored. Corporate and administrative positions are sponsored far less often and typically require specialized credentials that are difficult to source domestically.
How does the Green Card application process work at Novant Health?
For most roles, Novant Health files a PERM labor certification with DOL, demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker is available. After PERM approval, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Once the priority date becomes current under the Visa Bulletin, you file for adjustment of status or consular processing. The employer's immigration counsel manages most of these steps.
How long does the Green Card process typically take at Novant Health?
The PERM labor certification alone can take 12 to 24 months depending on DOL backlogs and whether an audit is triggered. After PERM, I-140 adjudication adds additional time. For applicants born in countries with visa backlogs, total wait time can extend well beyond the filing stage. Starting the process as early as your employer allows is the most effective way to manage this timeline.
How do I improve my chances of getting Green Card sponsorship at Novant Health?
Target units with established sponsorship history, confirm sponsorship commitment in writing before signing your offer, and ensure your state licensure is active before your start date. Migrate Mate can help you map your full Green Card timeline, identify your EB pathway based on your credentials, and flag any gaps in your profile before Novant Health initiates the PERM process.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Novant Health?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
